Z For Zachariah
The post–apocalyptic sci–fi novel, "Z for Zachariah", by Robert C. O'Brien, was the source material for the fourth feature–length from director Craig Zobel who gained some notoriety with his previous film "Compliance". If Mr. Zobel was far from impressing me with the latter, he doesn't do much better in this one. Instead of the teenage protagonist of the book, Zobel and his screenwriter, Nissar Modi, opt for an adult version of the character, played by the unrecognizable Margot Robbie who has generated some buzz with her small but memorable part in "The Wolf of Wall Street". In this brittle thriller, she's Ann, the hypothetically unique survivor of a radioactive catastrophe that contaminated the Earth and destroyed the rest of the human race....show more content...
A certain day, however, she bumps into a skittish man, John (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who rushes into contaminated waters. She gently takes care of him when he falls sick, praying fervently to God to save him. At a first glance, John seemed a tricky guy, acting suspiciously, sometimes bossy, and even aggressive when he gets drunk. Ann, in need of physical contact and considering the repopulation of the Earth, urges him into sex, but he disappoints her in that particular aspect. Ultimately, he falls in love with her, but what could have been a relaxing life in duo, is turned upside down when another stranger, Caleb (Chris Pine), arrives to compete for the last existing woman, bringing tiny portions of tension into their little paradise. Thrills are scarce, and every attempt to make them work out falls into dullness and conventional. This is aggravated by the fact that the film, beyond predictable, lingers on lukewarm situations for an eternity, where we never feel real empathy for the characters or perceive any sustainable passion sprouting from the love
Heroic. Bold. Daring. Being brave towards someone's wrongdoings is very difficult, especially to someone who is employing you or a father–like figure to you. In The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, a book by Avi, Zachariah, is depicted being brave in a calm and collected way. Unlike Zachariah, Charlotte is shown being brave in an emotional way. Standing up to someone who has authority over you would be absolutely difficult. Both Zachariah and Charlotte stood up for what was wrong in the Captain's doing's. Zachariah has been very heroic when standing up to Captain Jaggery throughout part 1 in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Zachariah first shows he is daring by telling Charlotte that during the last voyage, Captain Jaggery

Z for Zachariah: Accurate or Lies
"I feel as if it is the beginning of the end". Ann Burden, main character. She is the last person alive, or so she thinks. She had said this line because she feels as though the world is at an end since she is all alone. A nuclear blast has just6 occurred and there are only two people left. Together they try to get electricity to work, tractors to go, and much more. O'Brien believes that some areas can avoid radiation yet if a nuclear bomb explodes everything is toast. The effect of people in reality vs. the effect on people in Z for Zachariah. As well as effects on nuclear bombs with animals vs. the book. I will conclude with the effects on Earth, reality vs. Z for Zachariah.
With nuclear bombs are the effects on people different or the same? Mr. Loomis gets radiation from bathing in contaminated water. It took him half a day before he was hit with what has happened to him. As well as it took him almost a year until he was recovered from it. In reality however, you can be killed within days. The radiation can go throughout your body super–fast. In conclusion being able to recover fully from radiation is close to impossible....show more content...

Z For Zachariah Character Analysis
One who may be viewed as evil is someone who enjoys hurting others and may not think about the consequences their actions towards someone or something may do to harm or affect the people around them. Through the book "Z for Zachariah" written by Robert O'Brien one of the two main characters Mr Loomis some may consider as evil. The other main character is young female called Ann who lives on her own until Mr Loomis entered the valley. Through the book, Mr Loomis has proven to be evil firstly because he had attempted to shoot Ann while she was doing him a favour because he had driven Ann out of her own home by an attempt of rape she came back each day to the garden to take care of the plants and animals giving him half the resources and the other...show more content...
Because Mr Loomis was continuing to get his energy back from being so sick from the toxic lake out of kindness Ann continued to come back to the house and look after the garden and animals as Mr Loomis was unable to. Each day Ann would collect the eggs, milk and many vegetables, she would always give half to Mr Loomis and keep half for herself. On Top of this kind action after all the hard work of working in the garden, she would walk up to the abandoned store and get anything she believed Mr Loomis would need for cooking as he now had to cook his own meals. She would never disturb Mr Loomis so she would always place all her findings from the garden and the store on the front doorstep. Not only was this hard work for Ann but it also was stressful as she always had the feeling like Mr Loomis was watching her through the kitchen window as she worked. One day on her way to work in the garden Mr Loomis had shot her just as she was crossing to come and do him a favour, he only had hit her leg not killing her but did cause an enormous amount of pain. Both the reader and Ann was confused about why he had only shot her leg, not knowing his level of skill with a gun it could've been by accident and was meaning to kill her, an alternative was that he was only attempting to injure her in that he had succeeded. This is an example of evilness because he was purposely trying to
Myth Of Zachariah
The Myth of Zachariah
There once was a young man named Zachariah Kellerhoff. A rather skinny, small, and weak young man that has never been athletic or paid attention to. Always in the dark or in the corner with no friends and avoided by almost everyone, except for his mother. His mother cared for him in all ways.
They lived together in a tribe full of great warriors. The tribe's name, The Comanche. Zachariah was obviously an outcast, but a skilled one. Every open time he had he was shooting his bow or throwing his javelin. He became very skilled at archery and javelin while everyone else worked with swords, horses, or slingshots.
Zachariah had a big thing to look forward to, his mom's birthday! He always loved his mom's birthday, his mom's...show more content...
'Ahhh!!!!!", Zachariah screamed in agony. "You shouldn't have messed with me you scrawny boy!" Thou shout walked towards Zachariah, as Zachariah crawled frantically away. It was helpless though, his bow was dragging him down and there was an edge 2 ft away from him. Thou Shout stood over him, looked him in the eyes and took a deep breath and looked down, about to blast flames, and right as flames started to form in the back of Thou shouts mouth, Zachariah notched his bow, closed his eyes and said,"This is for you mom" And
Zachariah Jackson Alternate Ending
Out good, Home best
There was a little boy named Zachariah Jackson. He lived in a rural part of a bustling village. His favorite thing to do is to kick around a soccer ball. He hated when mom told him that he could not play and needed to do homework.
One day, while he was outside, he kicked his soccer ball too hard, and it was bouncing towards the path that leads to the road. There was a well in the middle of the path, and the soccer ball was heading straight for it. "Noooooo!" Zachariah screamed and the ball bounced into the well. He sprinted towards the well. Once at the well, he tripped and fell headfirst down the well.

"What? Mum will kill me if she knew that I was down here.
"Boy! Come here!" something muttered from the other side of the room. Zachariah took slow, steady steps towards the voice.
It was a dwarf, long, dark hair and beard. He wore olive green scraps of clothes.
"Yes boy, you must be confused and wondering where your soccer ball is. Well, I have a home and a soccer field in this magical room. Would you accept my offer?" he asked. A little cottage appeared, followed by a soccer field and a playground, with all the play equipment imaginable.
"Well, what do you think?"
"Mum would NEVER let me do this," Zachariah replied to the dwarf, even though he knew that he was allowed to go out and play.
The dwarf looked shocked. "Well, lad I heard your mummy is not the nicest lady. I heard she gives you licks with a wooden spoon. I know you want to stay here more."
"I know she does sir, but I love my mum very much. I wish to return to her. Nothing you can give me or bribe me with can take that away from me, or my decision," the boy said, his voice

Hope In Robert O Brien's Z For Zachariah
Robert O'Brien's Z for Zachariah (1975) focuses on Ann Burden – possibly the last woman on Earth. The power of hope is effectively portrayed by foregrounding that with hope one can survive, yet without it, simply surviving can be unbearable. The difference between Ann's life, when she dreams of a happy future with Mr Loomis, contrasted with the despair she experiences once this hope has been destroyed, clearly conveys this message.
Readers are positioned to recognise that Mr Loomis' arrival to the valley allows Ann to hope for a more positive future. The idea of marriage and children was now a real possibility now which made Ann very happy. This is effectively illustrated when she stumbles across the Crabapple tree in full bloom noting that...show more content...
After Mr Loomis attacks Ann, the valley became very difficult and unbearable due to him destroying Ann's trust. This is effectively illustrated when Ann preferred to live in a cage than stay in the same house as she felt she was "in danger" (138). She "could not forget the horror of that night, and" she " knew that" she " would never trust him again." (146) The definite tone and high modality that Ann uses to describe this scene – "knew..... could not,.... Would not" – demonstrated how Ann strongly felt that she never wanted to and never could trust Loomis again. Not only did Mr Loomis' attack destroy all of Ann's trust in him but it also destroyed any hope of a future together aswel. Ann believed that at the end Mr Loomis' plan was "a picture, and it was of" her " tied up like Faro in the house" (148) which was the total opposite of what Ann had hoped with Loomis in the future. By using a simile O'Brien compares Ann's future with Faro being tied to the house, which shows the danger that Ann is situated in and positions readers to have a sense of unease.
O'Brien highlights the importance of hope in Z for Zachariah by comparing the positive effect of it when Mr Loomis first arrived to when he destroyed her hope. Although it Was written in 1975, this novel shared many similarities with modern dystopian texts. For example, Divergents' main protagonist is an adolescent female who finds the strength to survive in a world ruled by corrupt adults, much like Ann who survives despite misogynistic M Loomis. Furthermore, Tris and Ann are both fiercely independent, determined, and brave young women whom function as worthy role models to girls

Zechariah Essay
Zechariah
Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the books of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520–518 B.C. The book of Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God's people. Chapter 11 verses 4–17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in the Old Testament to understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows: 4 This is what the LORD my God says: "Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter. 5 The buyers will slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, 'Praise the LORD, I am now rich!' Even the shepherds have no compassion for them....show more content...
Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves. 17 Doom is certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind!" The commentary Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the passage. This vague language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive. The author feels that this passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in Zechariah 10:3. In both passages it is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made the Lord angry. Zechariah is describing the social disorder and the peoples' dishonesty toward each other that has overwhelmed the community before it will be restored by God. This commentary is certain that the doomed flock is in fact Israel, but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent. Their guess is that they may be the workers in the temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd is understood as symbolizing a ruling, most likely a prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his audience that Israel is in total disarray and the leaders aren't doing anything to help, in fact some are making the situation worse. God is permitting the corruption by sitting on His hands. While doing so, he stresses the need for repentance so the corrupt community may be restored. The prophet

Z For Zachariah Movie Analysis
You know how you have hopes and expectations for a thing but when you finally experience that thing it doesn't meet expectations? That sums up my experience of the movie adaptation of "Z for Zachariah". I first saw the book on the shelf of my school library, and as a teenager in the 8th grade, and it grabbed my attention right away. The story, the characters, the setting, the choices and the conflict were all very serious and engaging to a young adult. Having read the story at that point in my life, it will remain burned in as one of those permanent young adult experiences. Decades went by and when I heard about the upcoming movie adaptation,I was understandably excited. We all hope to see our favorite characters leap from the written page...show more content...
I cheered at the casting of Chiwetel Ejiofor as Loomis. Ejiorfor is a great actor bringing depth, awareness, and sensitivity to the character in a way O'brien did not script into the novel. I cringed a bit seeing Margot Robbie cast as Ann Burden though after experiencing her performance I quickly formed a new impression of her. She was strong in the role and earned my approval as a multifaceted actress, taking her beyond her very adult scenes in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and her upcoming descent into criminal lunacy as Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad". Chris Pine is lucky to have been cast as Captain Kirk in J.J. Abram's Star Trek reboots because none of his other performances have been worth my movie dollars. With that said, he was the weak leg of the stool in Z–the

Zachariah
Zachariah is the Seahawk's cook, surgeon, and only black man. Originally from Africa, he is around 50 years old (the oldest on the ship), cannot read, and knows very little about Christianity. (He does like the story of Jonah, though.) He's also, as it turns out, Charlotte's closest ally on the Seahawk. Zachariah gives Charlotte the dirk (a knife) for protection and sews for her a miniature set of sailor clothes. Unlike Captain Jaggery or her father, Zachariah presents himself not as Charlotte's superior, but as her equal. He becomes a trustworthy friend and a loyal mentor. As he's the one singled out and punished for the crew's mutiny, Zachariah also becomes a compelling figure of sacrifice who is thought to be dead by Charlotte and Captin
