Writing 101 Reflective Essay
Sometimes when you write an essay you feel so confident about it that you think it might bring you your fifteen minutes of fame. However, most times it just brings you fifteen minutes of disappointment when you see the grade you got. Writing is not an easy process. Just like any other skill, it requires lots of attention and lots of learning. In a way, writing is like a business. If you continue to work on it and learn new things about it, it will grow and prosper, but if you become stagnant in your learning and operations you are sure to lose everything that you've worked for. In that sense, Writing 101 has allowed me to continue to learn more about writing, which in turn has drastically improved it. Throughout this Writing 101 course, my...show more content...
Before this Writing 101 course, I would have never turned to a peer–reviewed source for information, and I probably would have never known what a peer–reviewed source was. However, I now know how to utilize peer–reviewed sources in order to keep a reader's attention. Along with the credible sources I learned to use, I also learned that it is important to use the voice of others in your work. Sometimes, you can get your reader's attention if you offer some else's point of view. In Essay 3, I was able to use an interview I did with Belle Helnore in order to offer another person's perspective on the issue I was discussing. In my essay I said,
When I asked her about how she felt about her student debt, if she had any, she told me, "It's always left me with a little bit of stress because I don't know how I'm going to pay it off after I graduate." Belle also mentioned that she worried about costs outside of her student loans, such as all the costs of living that her parents have been paying for her whole life. These costs included car insurance, car registration, housing bills, phone bills, etc.
In this piece, I was able to allow Belle to tell the audience about her college experience. This caught reader's attention by offering another perspective that I could not have

Knees weak from climbing a flight of stairs or the anticipation of meeting Brian, I walked into his office announcing my presence with a raspy, delayed voice. Upon flinging open the door, his face lifted of his desk and stared at me with a distant expression. My first take of Brian caught me off guard, with his apple red mohawk, wearing his branded castle racing jacket and pants. Looking at his appearance you just knew he was into racing. After building up the confidence to murmur good morning we left his office to his own personal race track he made at his house. "There is more to just sitting down on a vehicle and holding down the throttle. If it was that easy everyone would do it." For Brian racing has come at a cost and has been through adversity on and off the track.
Racing was always there for Brian. "I raced motorcycles or any other vehicles such as snowmobiles, four–wheelers, and dirt bikes since my mother died", responded Brian. How'd you ever get into racing I asked? Brian responded, "facing my fears was...show more content...

"My first injury is by far my most remembered. I broke my leg on the last lap after hitting an approach." I had a chance to watch Brian race and the experience that he described. "Getting hit in football or any other sport is physically demanding, but you get breaks. Breaks in the form of quarters, halves, time–outs, or even between plays or fouls. In motocross there is no breaks. In sports you have a team that you can rely on in case you mess up. In motocross you mess up you either lose or are injured, many times

Profile Essay My best friend Leah Nepomuceno is one of the strongest people I know, especially when it comes to family. Family to her is everything and she has done all she can to try and keep hers together as a whole. We were in sixth grade swinging on the swings outside at recess, whispering and giggling about our usual gossip when she received news from one of our teachers that we knew was serious by the look on her face and fear in her voice. She came up to us and told her she needed to go the office and that she was being dismissed, she gave me permission to walk with her inside. On the short but long felt walk inside Leah's heart was pounding, her hands were sweating, and her eyes were slowly filling with tears. Her mom was...show more content...
"This hurt a lot, it was like my mom didn't care, never cared, how could she leave me with all those responsibilities I was only 15 years old" she said when I asked her how it made her feel (Nepomuceno). This was truly heart breaking to see, especially being so young and watching all of this happen to my best friend when there wasn't much I could do besides be the best friend I could. Ron soon couldn't be in the house anymore and had to be moved into a hospital with a rehab facilitation. This made it extremely hard on Leah because the hospital was an hour away limiting the time she got to spend with her dad. "I started visiting every weekend making it extremely hard for me to have a social life or a boy friend. I started getting extremely depressed which was making my attendance at school and work suffer." After Leah put herself through drivers ed and got her license she used the old car they had to make these hospital visits. The gas money was becoming a problem so she knew there was only one thing she could do, get a part time job working downtown. "I hated asking my dad for money and my mom was never there for us, so I decided to work instead of get back into track," Leah said when I asked her what she did to afford the hospital visits (Nepomuceno). Leah hated being in the hospital all the time though, she said it felt empty and always smelt like rubber gloves. When Ron was moved to a better hospital that was

The plan was to write a profile that conveyed completely heartfelt honesty and insert it into some dating site if she could find one out of seemingly hundreds, and try to get it done by the end of the evening before a change of mind. This entailed quite a bit of thought to say everything just right without sounding pathetic or wanting which was not the case at all. Fifteen minutes later, nothing came out right so she opened up a search engine instead to choose out a dating site and soon found out how many different flavors there are of them. The idea is to choose a service that closely matches exactly what it is that any person is looking for in a relationship. Cooking is a passion. Sometimes I make time to go see a movie and sneak in candy inside my purse. I feel like a criminal but it is fun and by my reasoning, paying $4.75 for the movie house drinks makes up for the crime. Besides, the box of candy looks just like theirs, same brand and everything. I live in a resort town and I love to mingle in the crowds because it makes me feel less alone. I absorb the happy vibes and share my own. Exchanging smiles when I get complimented on my looks lets me know I have assimilated into society successfully and have come into my own as the female I have become. I'd much rather fit in than stand out. That said, I yearn to be held, wanted by a man having never tasted the lips of one on mine, not even once. It would be sweet. I want to feel strong arms embrace me, dance with me because I love dancing but hate dancing alone. I seek a lonely man, one who was married many wonderful years, or divorced when perfectly happy and doesn't really believe anyone will come along to come close to being her replacement. Yet, he despises being alone so he reaches out one last time. That man hasn't made love in so long that he has forgotten how, as well as had any urge. If I were to come into that man's life, I would not try to be a replacement. We would attempt to grow close together, to learn about each other, share time with one another. He would let my happiness wash over him and cure him. And if after that he ultimately felt
Criminal Profiling Essay example
The process of inferring the personality characteristics of individuals responsible for committing criminal acts has commonly been referred to as criminal profiling. (Turvey) Criminal profiling can also be referred to as, behavioral profiling because when a profiler creates a profile they refer to the behavior of the offender. The general term criminal profiling can also be referred to as crime scene profiling, criminal personality profiling, offender profiling, psychological profiling and criminal investigative analysis. All the terms listed above are used inconsistently and interchangeably. Modern criminal profiling is owing to a diverse history grounded in the study of criminal behavior (criminology), the study of mental illness...show more content...
Secondly, the physical aspects of the victim are important as well; is the victim is heavy, and was dragged for a long distance, it can be surmised that the criminal is strong and may have a muscular appearance. (Patterson) Victimology is first and foremost an investigative tool, providing context, connections, and investigative direction. (Turvey) Some people may ask, "Why profile the victim?" but profiling the victim is a very important element that helps profilers better understand the criminal. Profilers look at the general lifestyle and activities of the victim in order to know who had access to them and when. Knowing the victim and properly profiling them may establish a relational link between the victim and criminal. When profiling a victim it is important to look at them as a real person as well as a victim. Some investigators and detectives have a tendency to deify or vilify the victim in a case. Deification involves idealizing victims. For example,
Two nine–year–old girls are abducted from a bus stop. Both are found dead in a drainage ditch the next day, disposed of less than 100 yards away. The press refers to the victims as "fallen little angels," and the investigators do not conduct an investigation into the victims' family histories, focusing instead on a possible serial
Profile of a Place Essay
Separate but equal is the approach that my roommate and I took when we moved in. To keep things separate, her things are on the left and mine are on the right. The equal part comes in if one of us wants to use something of the others (such as a nail clipper or a hair tie.) This means that almost anything we own is open to use with permission. We decided that we didn't want to combine any of our things just yet because we didn't know each other that well. I believe it's a good idea because it will reduce the chance of an argument over whose things are whose. Girls seem to be pettier about their things than boys. Having two girls in such a small space can lead to unwanted confrontation and bitterness. I'm not a territorial person,...show more content...
All of the red that I have overpowers her green so it's not as if we are "Decking the Halls." Another visual that may catch the eye is the cleanliness of one side of the room compared to the other. The right side, my side, is always neat and orderly but to the left is normally a wreck. Clothes are usually everywhere and it makes for a cluttered looking room. When a room is cluttered it looks even smaller. Sometimes when I walk through the door her towel and dirty clothes are right in the middle of the floor. It's obvious to see that in most cases, she does not honor our "separate but equal" rule. It's ironic that this is happening because she thought of the idea. I guess she is comfortable enough with me now to join more of our belongings. Earlier I mentioned a little about the layout of my dorm room. Now, here is the full version. When you come into the dorm, each set up on the right and left are basically the same. The closets are against the same wall as the door in separate corners. On top of my closet is a big black stereo, most of the time I have some type of R&B or Neo Soul coming from the speakers. My roommate has the TV and DVD player on top of her closet. Recently we watched the MTV Music Awards on it. Moving right along to our microwaves, which are located on separate walls, one of them in sitting on the refrigerator and the other is on two storage bins. All of my laundry items are at the foot

Profile Essay Interview
When thinking in the terms of marriage and one's partner, the words that come to my mind are compassion, love, tenderness, trust, and devotion. It's truly amazing to see someone who has endured such tragedy in their life, who has suffered pain, fear, and betrayal by the hands of the one person who should have shown just the opposite. Little did I realize that the woman who would be my instructor for two college courses I had taken would be such an inspiration to me.
At first thought on who I would choose to interview for a profile essay assignment in my English class, Syd was the first person to come to mind. She has worked as a Clinical Counselor and worked in Child Protective Services in which she covered foster care, adoptions, child welfare investigations, and families in risk of losing their children. Her experiences in life helped tremendously in those fields of work. Being able to make a difference in the lives of so many has been greatly rewarding. A Family Profile
MY SELECTED FAMILY PROFILE When a family doesn't have children, it seems like they can spend more time on their own health and wellness needs. For this reason I decided to interview two friends of mine. They are an unmarried man and women who live together, have no children and see themselves as being active sports and health people. They eat well, exercise regularly. Both are white and spend a good deal of time outside. He worries about concerns about how often he gets sunburned while running and playing tennis. She is a sometimes runner but mostly plays some golf with her friends, walks regularly and likes to swim in the community pool. Both have office jobs that are basic administrative and, for Jill, inside sales. She seldom travels for work and he never does since he is really more involved with communication IT. Jack (not his real name) is 6'1 is Caucasian and weighs 185 pounds. Pulse rates and blood pressure are normal. His appearance is good. Skin color and tone seems appropriate. He is 35 years old. Jill is 5'4, blond with blue eyes, is Caucasian as well but sees herself as connected with her Croatian heritage and weighs 130 pounds. Her pulse and blood pressure are also normal. She is 31. I provided for them an online height, weight and BMI averages so that they could keep a record of this (Rush, 2012). Neither has had any major health issues, just annual colds, periodic herpes outbreaks (which they link to stress at work) and some muscular complains about
Developmental Profile Essay
A human being begins life as a single cell. This cell changes throughout its life time to develop into a unique individual. Human development is the scientific study of the patterns associated with this change in accordance with the internal and external conditions of its existence (Papalia, Olds & Feldman, 2009). In exploring human development, there are three key areas that need to be addressed. These comprise of physical development, cognitive development and finally psychosocial development. Within each of these areas, it is apparent that most address three key issues. Firstly, is the development process continuous or a series of discontinuous stages? Secondly is there one path of development characteristics or does the individual take...show more content...
Jane works part time at a local Woolworths supermarket and has had a stable boyfriend for 12 months. Jane has a great relationship with all her siblings, with a special bond to her older sister. She gets on really well with both her parents and still loves physical hugs and attention from them. Her relationship with her boyfriend is one of trust and respect with no sexual contact. In presenting this profile it will show that Erikson's, Piaget's, Brofenbrenner's and other theories all fit along the continuum of development.
Physical development explores growth and how a person physically changes throughout their lifespan. Jane was born at term with no problems or complications during pregnancy or birth. As a young child learns control over their body and learns to interact with the environment. Skills such as fine and gross motor develop along with less visible skills such as hearing, vision, taste, smell and touch. How a child grows physically is dependent on their genetics and their environment. Access to nutrition and the stimulation of a suitable environment are essential for growth. Milestones of Motor Development according to Denver, (Papalia et al., 2009, p.131) list the ages at which 50 % of children are expected to achieve motor skills. Jane reached all these milestones early. She walked at 9 months and skipped the stage of crawling. When she reached the age of 5 she became very clumsy and needed to go back to
My Personal Identity Essay
A person's identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests and surrounding environments are all factors that tend to help shape a person's identity. Some factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a person grows up in a family, they are influenced by many aspects of their life. Family and culture may influence a person's sense of responsibilities, ethics and morals, tastes in music, humor and sports, and many other aspects of life. Friends and surrounding environments may influence a person's taste in clothing, music, speech, and social activities. Personal interests are what truly set individuals apart. Society has had a limited impact on my lifestyle, mostly because I despise trends. The largest trends I despise are rap and hip–hop and the clothing, attitudes, and type of speech that that type of 'music' is breeding. I chose to steer away from that crowd, but it may also be because I live my life off of adrenaline. My high on life is the energy I have when I get my blood pumping, my heart pounding, and my adrenaline raging. Most aspects of my individuality reflect that very well. I love hard, aggressive music, and also guns, but my passion in life is extreme sports, whether it be on a dirt bike, a bmx bike, a snowmobile, or a snowboard. I have a strong set of morals and ethics that I have partly adopted from my parents, but some are also partly my own. My morals mostly consist of karma (being kind, caring, helpful, truthful, and considerate to others), not littering (especially in nature), respecting nature, keeping a clean and welcoming home, success that is measured with happiness and not possessions, and having strong family ties. I feel that I am very strongly rounded individual who is going to go far in life. Many people would agree with that, although some people just think that I am an absolutely crazy person who has a death wish and will not go anywhere but to the hospital or the morgue.
Educational experiences also tend to influence a person's identity. I have not had too many educational

Sam decided he wanted to own his own department store. He borrowed $20,000.00 from his father–in–law, L.S. Ronson– a banker and rancher. He also used his $5,000 that he was able to save from the military and made his dream of having a department store a reality in the fall of 1945. He purchased a franchisee of the Butler Brothers, which consisted of two chains in Newport. One chain was the Federated department stores, which were small department stores and then the Ben Franklin variety stores. Sam's store was a variety store and with the help of Butler Brothers, his store led in sales and profits in the six–state region (Wikipedia Encyclopedia 2). Sam started his first store with the same principles that we can still see today at Wal–Mart and Sam's Club stores. He stocked all the shelves with a wide range of goods with very low prices, he kept his store centrally located so it was easily accessible to many customers, stayed open later than most stores especially during Christmas and Thanksgiving seasons, and experimented with discount merchandising which is the reason he led in sales in profits. He would buy straight from the wholesaler, which enabled him to lower his price per item, to sell a greater quantity of goods, thereby escalating his sales volume and profits (Fitzgerald 2). All these ideas were new to businesses, however Sam caught on fast and was able to use them to his advantage. When his lease was up his landlord would not renew the lease because he

In modern business, it is important to have a mindset of sustainability and environmentally friendly business practices. Two fundamental characteristics of an effective and sustainable leadership model are having the foresight of what the company is trying to attain and identifying the worth in the process and supplying the leadership to reach the companies goals. Leadership begins with trusting in the process, and adhering to the steps themselves. The single best way to achieve this is to lead by example. In this paper the author will explain how Marie Ziegler of John Deere help set the company on the path it follows today.

Marie recognized that the customers are the reason a company exists. As a good leader she understood that without customers, there is no need for the products that John Deere provides. The product and the service that any company provides is a direct reflection of the dedication of a company, its values and its employees. The conduct of a business from the president and CEO all the way down to the staff on the sales floor reflects a company's values.
Strategy is what a leader uses to develop a set of actions to follow that supports long term visions, values and objectives (Desjardins, 2007). Strategy is the crucial aspect for the integrated management system. There are key elements to developing the strategy that surrounds all the health, safety, and environmental considerations required to fulfill the strategic plan. Included within this are the planning process, setting targets and objectives, establishing and environmental policy that backs the vision of the company, contemplating which industry code of practices will be instituted, and defining the framework for communication. When these aspects are combined, they create an environmental policy that states a company's base principals and projected intentions for environmental performance.

There are a lot of people around Belmont University with different concepts, different goals, different experiences, different cultures, but most important, different methods of thinking. When I realized that I would need to write a profile of someone else, I thought it would be the easiest essay that I have ever done. Contrary to my expectations, I realized that to write someone else's profile is kind of hard, because it is not only a simple thing such as just write the entire life of the person. I knew that he was a different guy with a lot of experiences for me to know, but actually he was way more than that.
Andrew was born at Bangkok, Thailand. At the time he told me that, I became so interest to know about the culture, and all the differences between there and here. The most interesting thing about Andrew is that he has already lived in few different places and knows a lot of different cultures. He lived there in Bangkok until his six years old, and he had a good life there. He was used to live in a property where his family was the only white family in the whole building, what for me, I think it would be kind of scary, but according to him, it was kind of normal for him and his parents. His dad was used to work for a company back in Bangkok that when Andrew was six, the company changed place to Arizona, United States. With six years, he had already challenged the difficulties of change home to another country, and especially the big change of culture.
Andrew was lucky to move when he was only six, because whenever you have more then ten years and had already made a lot of friends, and had already gone to school, it would be much harder to get used to

Chapter Two – The Health Improvement Issue From the various studies, reports and statistics (many of which have been referenced and/or quoted in the Introduction) it is clearly evident that there are a number of different health improvement issues in the town of Middlesbrough. Whilst these health improvement issues cover such things as alcohol and drug misuse, from the reports, statistics and studies, it is clear that the key and predominant health related improvement issue in the town of Middlesbrough, is smoking. The Middlesbrough Health Profile 2012 says that 'smoking is one of the main priorities for improvement in this area; approximately 30,000 people smoke in Middlesbrough' (Middlesbrough JSNA, 2012). As a result of this large section of Middlesbrough's population smoking, it would come as no surprise that a high number of people are suffering from smoke related illnesses and diseases and worst still, dying of these related illnesses and diseases prematurely. The high numbers of people suffering smoke related illnesses and disease will have an adverse impact on the local NHS and other services and in turn, be a high impact in terms of money, budgets and increasing costs that the local NHS
Essay on Community Profile
Introduction
The locality I have based my community profile on is Ardoyne. I feel that Ardoyne is familiar enough for me to carry out my research as I have lived here all my life. Although my project is based in Belfast city centre, we work with many groups and young people from the Ardoyne area. this would prove beneficial to myself as I would sometimes have already developed a relationship with the young people through community life.
I will firstly explore the community I have chosen by speaking to local people, using photographs, and recordings of my observations. In doing so I intend to create a picture and overall feeling of the community as well as the people who live here. This data will be accompanied by my own comments in...show more content...
For a community that witnesses a lot of conflict during each year Ardoyne is full of people who love to chat and help out whatever why they can. The older generation in particular take pride in their 'what's mine is yours' attitude. While taking this picture an old lady quietly asked me if I was a tourist. I replied laughing telling her no. she went on to tell me that she walked her granddaughter to school through the protesters each morning while it lasted. In that time she had to endure spitting and urine filled balloons being hurled at her by the protesters. She also talked about the day a pipe bomb was thrown at the parents and children of the school. She said she 'wouldn't wish it on anyone' as she slowly walked off. I couldn't help thinking what a bizarre experience just chatting with the old lady, who was completely open to sharing her experience with me.
Improving a specific aspect of community life
The aspect of community life I have chosen to explore is the 'drinking culture' within Ardoyne. In the small area that is Ardoyne there are eight pubs, five of which being night clubs. I feel that this environment is contributing to the many issues facing the community of Ardoyne.
