When asking, "what is it that makes humans truly unique?" you must first ask yourself what unique means. In the grand scheme of the universe, humans may not be that unique but here on Earth we are very much so. We shape the world around us every day, for better or worse. We are by no means the most abundant species on the planet, (that title goes to ants), but we are the only species on Earth protecting other species. So in this case, unique means more progressive and more biologically advanced than any other species on Earth. To find that answer we must look at the biological reasons as well as the social reasons we are more unique than other animals. Opposable thumbs, along with our use of language and invention of technology are what make humans truly unique from all other species.
The closest animal to the human race are primates. Chimpanzee's and humans are 99 percent identical in terms of genetics, but where they differ are their thumbs. Doctor Prabhakar says, "Opposable thumbs, manual dexterity and ankle or foot adaptations for walking on two legs are hallmarks of our species" (Scientist Live Magazine). Humans and primates were on the same evolutionary path up until Homo–sapiens broke off around 1–2 million years ago in Africa. From there, scientists believe they spread throughout the world and evolved along the same path; Roughly 30,000 years ago they became the modern humans we are today. We live in a world where when we are young, we are told that the sky 's the limit and that if we put our minds to something we can actually achieve it no matter what. What we are never told is that, this motto is not applicable to everyone. The beauty of being unique and different simultaneously happens to be what ultimately limits some of us from reaching towards the sky and achieving our goals. Every person should be as much of an individual as they can be. Mankind should be who they are on the inside and try to prevent themselves from being someone else. This action results in sin. You should be your own person, be who you were meant to be, and strive to be as different from everyone else as much as you can. This can be seen when Emerson states that, "Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life's cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another you have only an extemporaneous half possession" (160). This infers that all of your individual thoughts are full ideas, while only half of another's ideas are in your possession. Your own gifts and abilities are worth more than another's if you are to maintain your individuality. If you adopt any ideas from someone, that person will have kept their individuality while you have lost some of yours. Your mind is your own and no one can touch it except for you. I am Unique



From the time I was a young child, I have always known I was different from others. Although I didn't realize I was in any way "smart" until around the fourth grade, I had been skipped up to the first grade from kindergarten. While friends struggled with homework assignments, finishing them came easily to me, like riding a bike. Supposedly – I've never ridden a bike.



No, my passion, and talent, from the very beginning, was with written materials. By second grade, I had my own card for the library and went there at least once a week. "Are you getting ready for Halloween, honey?" It was July. Embarrassed, I mumbled that I was.



From then on, I tried to "mix in" other types of books. I would throw in a couple of "children's classics" or informative books, and I absorbed facts and knowledge like a sponge. It was no surprise then, to my mother, although it was to me, when I scored in the 90th percentile or higher in nearly every subject on the California test of basic skills.



Strangely enough, my intelligence and love for knowledge never set me apart from my peers. They either didn't know or didn't care, and I was satisfied enough with my social position to not want to change their apathetic status toward my abilities. In junior high school, I took pleasure in peaceably "blending into" my environment. I became, for all practical purposes, as much of a clone as possible without compromising my beliefs or personality.

Everyone believes in something, we all have our own distinct way we look at life. Everyone is not the same, and does not comprehend things the same. We all have our own values and morals that we abide by. Whether anyone knows it or not but we all have our own philosophy. A philosophy is basically your own knowledge and concept meaning of life. They became more like family to me than just friends, we supported each other through everything and in every way. However, we were all going through the same grade at the same age, so when something happened and none of us knew what to do they would go to their parents for advice. My perspective of the world began to greatly alter once I began traveling to a great amount of countries. I began to understand the true cost of the possessions I owned when I traveled to those that were small and impoverished. Science is expanding everyday. What fascinates me about science is the new discoveries and knowledge it provides to this world. I use both of these subject in my life. For example, when I play tennis I use Math for finding my percentages of shots or the probability of where my opponent is going to hit the ball. Challenges and obstacles is something that everyone faces in their life. Those challenges might have changed who we are or how we approached life. Being assertive is what makes me take on those challenges I face. For example an obstacle I had to overcome was driving. When I first learned how to drive it was very hard for me. My problem in driving was I didn't know how to turn in the right way. It took me days and weeks but I still wasn't good at it. I am an industrious and ambitious person who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. When I think what makes me unique, some personal traits come up to me. One is my ability to adapt any circumstance, and another is an ability to quickly improve myself.
