Summary: The Social Issue Of Feminism
![](/example-foto/social-issue-essay-example.png)
The social issue of feminism has been a much–disputed topic over the last couple of years. Feminism is the belief in the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.
Many well–know people have started to promote their feminism–Beyoncé, President Obama, Emma Watson and Malala Yousafzai to name a few. Suzanne Venker's article Men – the new second class citizens argues that men face more oppression than women, while contradicting the very idea of feminism. On the other end of the spectrum, in response to the article why I'm equalist, not a feminist by Laura Water entitled A scientist's view: equality, feminism and men's rights, Andrew Holding embraces the importance of feminism to denote the issues men must face that are often overlooked....show more content...
I assume the audience to this response piece is quite diverse, as the amount of detail given can be shaped to suit many people. The reason for this assumption is due to the title; it contains the words "feminism" and "men's rights," and because of that it sparks the interest of all genders (Holding, 2013). In A scientist's view: equality, feminism and men's rights, Holding states that "the world is against men," to which he elaborates by using the example of a man who had been turned away from Legoland because he was not accompanying a child at the amusement park (Holding, 2013). Holding uses several other endearing examples to show the kinds of situations men must go through, most of which people are not vary aware. In addition, he discusses the high suicide rates among young men, an issue cause many of the social issues men must face in present–day. In lieu of blaming feminism, Holding cultivates it and states that "those who protest [feminism] are typically those who have the most to lose from equality" (Holding, 2013). Holding's appeal to pathos portrays feminism and equality as equals and how because of that, men are just as much of a feminist concern as
Problems With Social Media Essay
![](/example-foto/social-issue-essay-example.png)
Problems with Social Media Social media or any other type of social networking can be harmful. There are many studies showing that social media may help our society, but they don't tell you any of the problems being caused by social media. One of the main problems occurring are cyberbullies. Cyberbullies are bullies over the internet that try to harm people with rude or hateful messages and even misuse personal information. Cyberbullying causes a big issue in society, often leading to stress, anger, and even suicide. To get started, Cyberbullying causes stress on a lot of people, not just the person getting bullied, their friends and their families to. Everyone around the victim must put up with what the cyberbully has done to the...show more content...
When people think they are the only ones getting bullied, they are scared to go out in public, which makes them angry. They don't know how to solve the problem and that cause huge issues with their life. Constantly feeling lonely makes you feel like you have no friends, nor can you get any friends because of it. More studies shown from Carl shows that males get angry and vengeful whenever they are cyberbullied, which causes them to say something back to a bully or try to fight. When teens do that when getting bullied rather than trying to solve the problem in a good way only makes things worse. Ignoring a cyberbully and deleting your social media account is a good step into stopping the bullying. If you fire words back at a bully, they know they are getting the attention they want. Bullies strive off attention. Ignoring a bully is one of the most important steps in getting a bully to stop. If that doesn't work it's better to start trying to get help from other people such as counseling. The last issue is suicide. Suicide is also a huge problem when it comes to cyberbullying or any other type of bullying. Studies have shown from Jama Pediatrics that Cyberbullying are more strongly related to suicidal thoughts in children and adolescents than traditional bullying. Estimates have confirmed that almost 20% of victims are cyberbullied. Previous studies have also shown that bullying is a strong factor for adolescent
Poverty As A Contemporary Social Problem Essay
![](/example-foto/social-issue-essay-example.png)
Poverty as a Contemporary Social Problem
A social problem, is "a general factor that effects and damages society". It can be used to describe an issue or a problem within a certain group of people or an area in the world. Examples of contemporary social problems today include anti–social behaviour, drug abuse, and sexual abuse. Poverty is an example of a social problem that exists all over the world, and to different extents. In the UK, poverty has effected at least a third of the population, as shown by the Office of National Statistics, providing evidence that it is a massive social problem in the country. Tameside has a big poverty problem. 1 in 4 children in Tameside are born into poverty, and workers in Tameside earn significantly less than other workers in the rest of the North–West area. In addition, Tameside has the largest proportion of people claiming unemployment benefits compared to the rest of the North West of England.
There is evidence everywhere to suggest that poverty is a cause of crime, anti–social behaviour, and drug abuse. However, this can be counter–argued, as these can be a symptom of poverty – for example, an individual spending all their money on drugs and alcohol can lead to having no money to pay for sanitation, food, water, and shelter.
Poverty is a massive issue today, it surrounds all of life's experiences, and it impacts on the future for people everywhere, and on health everywhere in society. Poverty is not just related to unemployment or

Crime is one social issue that has caught everyone's eye. Crime has various branches; there are lots of different types of crime.
Major crimes that are the main cause of concern include Kidnapping, Theft/Robbery, Murder, Rape, ChildAbuse (Verbal and physical), Terrorism (Bombings etc), and identity fraud so on and so forth.
One of the main social agenda's of our age is to find a way to prevent these crimes.
There are different ways, theories and ideas as how to stop all of these crimes.
Murder and its prevention:When a person is killed by another against his or her will, it is labeled murder.

Rape and its prevention:Some teens don't believe they can actually be a victim of a rape. Anyone can be a victim, so people need to be aware of what is going on around them. One of the risk factors for rape is not communicating views on sex. Since most rapes are committed by an acquaintance or boyfriend, it is in everyone's best interest for those they know to understand their views on premarital sex. Then they need to set clear boundaries about what they will and will not do and where they will and will not go. There is also a lowered risk of rape when people follow the advice of dating or hanging out n groups. Also one should avoid being led into places where they are alone or isolated. Staying with the group means staying safe. Date rape drugs are becoming more rampant. While one can control if they drink alcohol or use drugs, one cannot always control what others put in their drink. To prevent someone from slipping a date rape drug in a drink one should not accept drinks that are brought by others. Women who are in particular major targets, should learn self defense as it can help them escape attempted rape.
Child Abuse (Verbal and physical) and its prevention:Verbal and physical abuse are very common crimes. Unfortunately victims to this crime can be as young as four. Especially in terms of physical abuse.
This crime can be prevented. Parents need to understand how important it is
Social Problems Within The Australian Society

A Social Analysis – Homelessness
There are a growing number of social problems existing within the Australian society and unfortunately, research does not need to prove this. All it takes is a stroll down the main street of some suburbs to realise the extent of social problems within society. Homelessness is a rising trend that is affecting people of all demographics. Homelessness is more than just a simple disadvantage; with usually many underpinning factors which contribute to it, such as domestic violence, financial stress, mental illness and drug use.
Homelessness is an issue around the globe, however when focusing on the issue within an Australian context – it stems back quite a long way. In the 1970's, Australia rediscovered...show more content...
(Johnson and Chamberlain, 2008) These factors impact directly on people within society and lead to extensive financial strain, which ultimately leaves them as a high risk of homelessness. In addition to this, it is believed that domestic violence is a primary cause for homelessness particularly amongst women and children. (Ultius, 2017)
A whole issue within itself is the accessibility to social housing for vulnerable Australians, with many families needing to seek short–term or crisis accommodation due to the lack of availabilities within the social housing sector, and for those who are able to obtain housing within the private sector often fall victim to private landlords as they display forms of power when rent falls into arears. These people then become victims within the private market, often becoming 'blacklisted' by landlords and their agents. It is believed that private renters who attempt to advocate for their rights are often locked out of their premises due to "disruptive behaviour." (Sharam and Hulse, 2014)
There is also a considerable amount of government pressure that damages any person's attempt at improving their financial situation. An

In today's world majority of the environmental issues we face are also social issues. These environmental issues becoming social issues when they tend to impact a large number of individuals in society. Some well known examples of this would be climate change, global warming and deforestation. These are clearly environmental issues but are also social issues because they all pose a threat to the environment of mankind. Some environmental and social issues don't seem like they would be social issues looking at it from afar but if you take the time to analyze and break it down you can see it does indeed have an impact on a large part of humans. Another positive is if there is a loss of crops in other parts of the United States, Iowa could carry the weight of those lost crops but it can also be a negative because if Iowa is one of those states that is experiencing the loss of crops then that is a big portion of the corn and soybeans being planted for that year. Another negative would be only being able to farm for a certain part of the year because you only plant two crops which could lead to less jobs and a decrease in the state of Iowa's economy. This is both an environmental and social issue because, it is about the environment and how crops can impact it but also how it can impact humans.
In chapter 11 of Bell, I read about supplying water in a costa rican village. There was a small village in Costa Rica that had just put in a new water supply dam. The dam was based on a small stream that went up into the mountains above the village and it was able to supply all of the houses on that side of the valley with clean running water. Positives of this is that there is water that is easily accessible to all of them in that area of the valley, they don't have to put their lives in danger by going into rivers and possible get attacked by predators or get a disease from bacteria that

Social Problems
A social problem is normally a term used to describe problems with a particular area or group of people in the world. Social problems often involve problems that affect real life. It also affects how people react to certain situations. While differences in racial/ethnic prejudices have been explored extensively in past literature (e.g. Bobo and Zubrinksy's 1996, study of differential prejudices directed toward Hispanic and Black individuals), little U.S. research has investigated how attitudes toward lesbians, gays, bisexual men, bisexual women, and male–to–female (MtF) and female–to–male (FtM) transgender (henceforth "LGBT") may differ ( Marcus, 2015).
Social justice that is face among the LGBT is discrimination. Variations in family structures include single–parent families, step families, blended families, and intergenerational families. Lesbian, gay, and bisexual families experience a special risk of discrimination.A major problem gay people face is homophobia–an extreme and irrational fear of lesbian and gay people simply because they are lesbian and gay. LGB people are one of the primary groups at risk of discrimination and oppression (Kirst–Ashman, 2013).

Board members need to be educated regarding the issues and needs of lesbian and gay people. Perhaps other board members are more knowledgeable and enlightened, and
Racial Injustice Is A Major Social Problem Essay
![](/example-foto/social-issue-essay-example.png)
Racial Injustice
Without any doubt, issues of racial injustice is a major social problem in our society. It not only affects how people view each other, but also how people interact and cooperate with each other. A lot of people are not aware of the racial issues that are still occurring in the United States, and even worldwide. It is an immense economic and social problem that is faced in communities. There are different forms of racism that is still seen currently in the judicial system, school system, and work system.
In a general aspect connecting all issues discussed in my introduction, the prime source of theses social problems is racism. Racism is a term that has remained relevant in society for ages in different parts of the world. It takes different forms and is evident in different ways but the term still remains the same word. The Merriam–Webster dictionary defines racism as "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race." That simple belief leads to unfortunate instances like segregation, bias, loss of civil liberties, or even worse being murders, genocides, rapes, terrorism, and many other horrific actions. Racism is a broad name that covers multiples issues societies face. Race was created socially, by the way people distinguish ideas and faces that one isn 't familiar with. George Fredrickson (2002) writes the following: "The term "racism" is often

In this essay, I interview subject (x) based on topics of political issues of (a) role of government, (b) economic, (c) social, (d) military and (e) environment. I interview and analyzed responses to determine what extent does my interviewee conform to ideological categories of left or right. The interviewee is a white male 65 year's old, retiree and resides in Bayside, Wisconsin. The interviewee has a bachelor's degree, divorced, once a brewery worker, has one son and is currently disabled. The questioned presented first a general and broad. I then relayed a relevant current event question that tied in with the overall subject. This approach I discovered became useful in determining what ideology the subject sided with.
In regards to the role of government the interviewee tended to be one sided revealing leftist or the Democratic ideology. I asked, "Do you support a large government or a small government?" The subject responded that the "government needs to be larger and more involved in regulation to end corruption." In this question the subject's response sides with the left, "which believes in expanded government, and the right believes in limited government" (Hey). The topic of abortion was flipped, the subject said they did not support abortion in any condition. For this reason the subject would side with the Republicans who "support banning abortion"

Social Influences on Sport Participation
It is clear that sport is strongly influenced by social factors and by human cultural responses. There is a recurring tension between tradition and the cry for modern intervention, this is apparent in football, where some want the technology that is used in rugby, in which a television screen is used in doubtful situations such as try's that weren't fully seen by the referee, this would eradicate time wasting in controversial football decisions, that cause players to fire up at referee's. A high percentage of the sports scene has been shaped by male domination. Women have been excluded by sport and although they have come a long way with barriers gradually being broken down, there is still a lot to do before equality is achieved. Progress has been made in sports such as rugby, football, athletics, tennis, golf and cricket, where historically women had little or no part in sport participation. It is an on going battle for women to achieve the type of coverage and sponsorship deals that men get in sport.

Social Issue Of Homelessness

Social Issue Essay
The social issue I selected to address within my paper is Homelessness. In Milwaukee, it's a sad reality for many families and individuals. My mother raising two children on her own, as a child I personally experienced this before. It's a topic no one really wants to address and is swept under the rug, especially in America and within the African–American community. Within African–American communities people rather not address the issue of Homelessness because people are ashamed and view those affected as less than, some rather not face the reality. Instead people overlook the issue and would rather not help their fellow man. It's a major social issue I see every day. On the north side of Milwaukee, you can't help...show more content...
If more citizens get out, make the effort, put in work, and do community service like working at homeless shelters, volunteering at soup kitchens, donating food, donating clothing, and other necessities for the homeless, this would be a good start and will in turn help so many dealing with homelessness. Within the religion of Mormonism, the dedication and devotion of the members in regards to service is astounding. The Church of Latter Day Saints has many different organizations within the church focused on those in need and what's so beautiful about this religion is that each member of the church gives time and effort to those less fortunate around the world. Members believe that service is everything, it defines what a Mormon is. By being of service, giving to others in service in the name of Jesus Christ can we become closer to the lord and to living a fulfilled life. Within the Church of Latter Day Saints, fasting is done once a month and the monies collected from each member (fasting offerings) is used towards helping the needy. The money collected helps the poor. Within the Church of Latter Day Saints, the church owns and runs farm land, factories, and grow food to help the underprivileged around the world. If more citizens come together and learn and use this same method to help those in need, we would be able to work to end

The main contemporary federal policy that will be examined is the amendments that have been made to the voting acts which empowered states to decide and make judgments on who is eligible to vote. The research will look into how this undermines the rights to vote in our modern society. In particular, the research will focus on the amendment made on the 1965 voting rights act that internationally defined eligibility of a voter with the inclusion of minority groups. A ruling made by the Supreme Court in 2013 gave power to states to determine and register eligible voters. This in my opinion, and from data collected from different articles gave states a chance to create more restrictions on voting rights. Social welfare associations think that beneficiaries of such laws have created a status quo which results in discrimination. The research will look at the impact of such contemporary policies and examine its effect on voting rights and societal perception of inequality.
Human rights and justice–oriented framework. How does the social problem and social policy response reflect social, economic and environmental justice and human rights concerns?
The introduction of the voting right act into the American constitution represented justice for all American citizens, created equality irrespective of race, gender or social status and eliminated unnecessary impediments that prevented individuals from voting. The right to vote evolved from a privilege to an

Social Issues in Pygmalion and the Importance of Being Earnest Society is composed of various people who hail from different backgrounds, races and socioeconomic statuses. People in society learn to interact with one another through social activities such as ceremonies, education and work. However, some society's people lack harmony to co–exist. The lack of peace and harmony among members in society leads to social issues. Social issues can therefore be defined as problems that influence certain people in society and are deemed as undesirable (Thomas and Azmitia). Sociologists identify these problems as those that undermine a certain group of people in society. Social issues have existed in society since time in memorial. Racism is one of the rampant social issues that continue to destruct our society. Due to the existence of these social issues, sociologists and humanitarians aim at creating awareness and finding solutions to these problems. Awareness has been raised through books, films and campaigns. Examples of plays that talk about social issues are Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde's, The Importance of Being Earnest. With reference to both plays, we shall look at the social issue of class difference. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, we see different topics such as coming of age, gender roles, segregation, as well as the two major topics which are racism and social inequality in Maycomb. Throughout the book Lee shows us that social inequalities and racism towards people of color and poor folks was very frequent in Maycomb. Lee uses the Tom Robinson's trial, the Ewells and the Cunninghams to show how people of color were highly treated less than compared to white people, but even among White people there was prejudice. This went from schools all the way to the justice system set in Maycomb.
Lee uses the Tom Robinson trial to show how racism was frequent in Maycomb. An example of this is when Atticus asks Tom why he ran from the scene, and Tom responded: "Mr. Finch if you were a nigger like me, you'd be scared too" (pg 261). Tom knows the consequences of an accusations like what the Ewells put upon him. He knew that he would get lynched or for sure get the death penalty. Not only he knew this but

On the other hand, White people living in poverty experience prejudice towards them by White people themselves. This can proven in the Tom Robinson's trial where it was evident that Tom was innocent but was still charged guilty because it was a White family's word against the word of a colored man. A social class hierarchy is also established, as seen with the Cunninghams, Ewells, and people of color. Social issues affect everyone in Maycomb, no matter what skin

Social change is broadly defined as the transformation of cultural, economic, political and social institutions and relationships over time. Sociologists are interested in identifying how change is initiated, for what or whose purposes and with what consequences. While some aspects of social change create positive results for example democracy and human rights expanded in the aftermath of the American and French revolutions many have unintended consequences the expanded availability of communications technology blurs conventional boundaries between home and work. Industrialization brought with it new living arrangements the growth of cities and population growth; intellectual and cultural change through the spread of ideas about democracy and equality via new media, such as penny news sheets and increasing secularism as scientific thought challenged religious beliefs. Sociologists drew on and adapted scientific method and created models of social change to explain this broad transformation from 'simple' homogenous societies to 'complex' highly differentiated societies, broadly understood as modernization.
In contrast to feudal societies, which remained static for a long period, or which were seen to change in cyclical ways, to be modern is to live with social change and in an environment in which "all that is solid melts into air". However, classical sociologists and social commentators have differed in their explanations for change and in their view of its consequences. First, late eighteenth century Enlightenment thinkers, such as David Hume and Adam Ferguson, argued that scientific reason would stimulate social change for the moral advancement of society. Concomitantly, social change became synonymous with the idea of social progress. Second,

"As a result Ireland was desperately poor country, overpopulation, full, as swift said, of beggars, wracked periodically by famine, heavily taxed, and with no say at all in its own affairs" by David Cody introduced in an introduction to A Modest Proposal. For the senior project I will be introducing the topic of poverty and class issue during A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. In 1729, Ireland was poverty–stricken and well under the impression that there wasn't people who were able to provide for themselves. The writer portrays a sense of sympathy and the need for a solution during the 18th century. As a result, Jonathan Swift wrote A Modest Proposal claiming an indication that in order for families in Ireland to live a standard, comfortable life style they would have to kill the children of the poor and feed them to Ireland's rich land–owners. This idea was brought up to view the fear of overpopulation, limiting rights of the Irish and the effect of penal laws during the 18th century and in A Modest Proposal.
As Swift is satirically writing, he introduces an idea that brings up a religious aspect as well as a fear of over population in Ireland. Immediately, Jonathan Swift conveys a plain argument that is supposed to help the people of Ireland; with the intention of killing the Irish's children so that they can benefit the rest of the world. Furthermore, the writer speaks upon the matter at hand "there are more children born in Roman Catholic countries about...show more content...
