For millennia, the deliberate development of compassion for all living beings, including oneself, has been one of the great healing traditions of Eastern wisdom. The Dalai Lama, for example, points out that compassion can quite literally transform our minds, and recent neuroimaging and behavioral research has supported this observation. A study by Dr. Fredrickson and her colleagues at the University of North Carolina found that participants who had been assigned to meditate compassionately showed increased levels of daily happiness. They also experienced less depression, had higher satisfaction with life and were in better physical shape. The power of compassion also reaches into the body's immune and stress response system. Dr. Pace and his colleagues at Emory University found that participants who practised compassionate meditation had stronger immune responses to a stressor, as measured physiologically by interleukin and cortisol

1. The four objectives of a speech introduction are to "hook" the audience into your speech, reveal your topic, explain why the audience should care and to present your thesis. For my "hook" I asked a couple of questions to get the audience involved. To reveal my topic, I stated the significance of the statistic I stated before it and why my topic is important. To make the topic relevant to the audience I stated that legalizing marijuana and other issues such as minimum wage and education will be on the California ballot in November. To present my thesis I stated that marijuana should be legalized and then I transitioned to my need step.

Doing the persuasive speech and the others we did, I prepared very much. I tried my best to memorize my speeches and if I didn't, I would at least try to not completely stare at my notecards during the speeches. I feel pretty good in the work I've done in my outline. I tried to be specific as possible in the outline so that's why I did 5+ pages. Although I did find good resources to use in my speech, I did have trouble finding good academic journals to support my position. The most trouble I had with this topic was on the community speech because I couldn't find specific evidence on how it positively affects the community of college students. Most of the articles that were talking about college students were saying how marijuana negatively affects them. I feel like I was very effective in communicating my message because in the first line in my need step I stated "In the year 2016, after almost 80 years of having marijuana as an illegal substance, it is time we move forward and legalize marijuana." and I feel like that was a good way to start off the body of my
Persuasive Essay On Gender Equality
We all as human beings deserve gender equality, equal rights and we need to be unified as one. What I mean by that is, it is too much hate already going on in this world and we do not need anymore of it. We all need to love and respect each other no matter what. No matter race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, creed or ethnicity we, all need to love one another like brothers and sisters. If you do not agree with who a person chooses to be, the least you can do is respect their decision. Women and men should be treated equally as well. If they are in the same work place they should be getting equal pay. We all bleed the same, so their should not be a reason to be treated differently from each other. Over, the years woman and men had very different roles to play in society. Women in the past were expected to cook and clean and take care of the children, while men would go to work bring home the money and discipline the children. Now "Women have virtually all professional and social roles, including those once dominated by men, and men have taken on many roles, such as raising a child, that were formerly occupied mostly by women"(Living With Diversity 9.2). Roles have been switched in the this society of men and women working. Women and men should be allowed to work in whichever workforce that they choose. No one should be afraid to say what they want to accomplish in the future. If a woman wants to be a firefighter she should be able to do that without anyones remarks. It

READER COMMENTS: The script is 12 pages too long. The format is amateurish. It has strange breaks at the bottom of the page and it has too many DISSOLVE TO: Professional writers don't use DISSOLVE TO: in their scripts. If the DISSOLVE TO: are cut out, two or three pages will disappear from the script. This script is a dicey pickup because it has a registration number. Who knows if it's been picked up by a another production company. There could be legal issues if you option this script. There are two plot lines that don't fit within the structure of the story. There is no distinct inciting incident, midpoint or climax. There is no single character that dominates as the protagonist or antagonist. They are all one dimensional characters. The audience would not be able to cheer for a character because they all have bad traits. The description need be shorter and more visual. Blocks of description needs to be cut down to help the story move faster. Scenes go on and on, and repeat moments from previous scenes. The dialogue does not help move the story forward. Unnecessary violence has no purpose in the film or moves the film forward. Scenes are too long and boring. There is no conflict among characters, and their goals are weak. There are no obstacles or enough conflict to get in any of the characters way. The FBI or the CIA should be hot on their trail to stop them, but nobody gets
Writing A Persuasive Essay
It's a simple enough idea, write an essay about a topic for credit. I'll admit I've written good essays in the past, I just have one issue with this topic; I am not a persuasive person. I don't have a passion to write about, or an idea in my head. Even if I was passionate about something, I doubt I have the skill to convince you. My arguments would consist of why I like the topic (or hate it) with an extreme bias, and I doubt that you would be moved. I couldn't convince you that the long hours of school take a toll on the students. Even if others agree with me, the way I word things, the lack of passion and my lack of being able to be assertive is the reason why I can't write this essay. First things first, the way I word my thoughts. Regardless...show more content...
You'll get this definition: "The writer takes a stand on an issue–either "for" or "against"–and builds the strongest possible argument to win over the reader. In a persuasive essay, it's the writer's job to convince the reader to accept a particular point of view or take a specific action." Along with a bunch of How Tos. I've have taken a stand that is very passive–aggressive, on why I can't write this essay. I know what you're thinking, this is ridiculous. Just think of it like this, as you sit there reading me ramble on and give excuses. You're starting to listen. Yes, you have been in my spot before, lack of passion words don't form right and you're just not clear enough. I see the irony here, this very essay, it contradicts itself. A persuasive essay on why I can't write a persuasive essay. In the end it's genius, I'm not faking an opinion or sing someone's thoughts. You might have considered this option before but it seemed too stupid. You looked up prompt after prompt. Nothing. When you finally settle you know it's not your best work and the grade shows. Or you did it last minute, reworded someone else's essay. You've even considered turning in nothing, I mean what's the point

hey, that is Danny Hamil and i might like to share with you some tips on things you should do before you begin exercising. Joint anguish has a direct effect on nearly the whole lot that we do in our lives: whether or not it be a easy assignment of getting away from bed; and that can be a complicated assignment if you are bothered with joint pain, peeling a banana on your breakfast cereal, going for walks to the eating table, or jogging a marathon.
Joint anguish and arthritis, with it's many variations and names afflicts us as we age. We cannot discontinue the aging in years, however we do have control over lots of our body components and how they perform as we grow older. The substitute of getting ancient just isn't very attractive. I, for one, am no longer competent to take the eternal dust nap. Nor am I in a position to grow to be motionless; and, i am definite you aren't either. Undertaking is without doubt one of the primary things that we can do to stay active and cellular. Imagine you're listening to a speaker trying to convince you to donate money to help a foreign country deal with a natural disaster (hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, etc). The speaker doesn't make eye contact, and you can barely hear him. He does nothing to appeal to your emotional side, and he doesn't cite any evidence to support his argument. In fact, there are no facts or statistics to prove this country needs your support.
Would you feel inclined to donate money to this speaker's charity? How might this speaker improve his approach? What would convince you to agree with this speaker's opinion?
Today, we're going to look at rhetoric, which is known as the...show more content...
All speeches need to begin with an introduction, which you've learned about in previous lessons. The point of an introduction is to grab your audience's attention and provide an overview of what you're going to speak about; in addition, your introduction needs to include a thesis statement: What point are you arguing? All speech also need to end with a strong conclusion. The conclusion of a speech should not simply summarize the main points. Instead, use your conclusion to convince your audience to take action. Revisit the thesis in your conclusion: In light of the evidence you've provided, why should your audience now believe your thesis? Why is your opinion "right"?
What happens in your speech between the introduction and the conclusion can vary. Two possible models for structuring a persuasive speech include the following:
1. Problem/Solution: the first part of your speech explains the problem (More than 60 percent of American adults are considered overweight or obese). The second part of your speech provides a solution which includes meeting the obstacles and providing evidence for why your solution will work (Places of employment should include gyms for employees as well as extended lunch breaks to allow daily

Persuasive Essay On Solar Energy
The Sun's energy out powers all of the energy sources made on Earth. Even though only a fraction of the Sun's energy makes it to Earth, it is still ten–thousand more times powerful than the energy sources on Earth. However, we are unable to harness such energy because of the many breaches we have to past through to achieve solar energy. As well, solar energy lacks certain aspects causing fossil fuels to be valued more. Although, by creating engineering advancements to improve the efficiency, expenditure, and availability of solar energy, the problem of solar energy usage will be resolved. Solar energy is already efficient with the environment; however, in order to solve this problem, we need to improve its efficiency with energy. In order for solar energy to be considered energy efficient today, we have to make the proportion of kilowatt hours produced over cost needed for it less than the proportion of this to fossil fuels. For example, in order to produce 1 kilowatt–hour or 3.6 megajoules, we need 50 cents. However, for coal in order to produce 1 kilowatt–hour for coal, we only need about 3 cents. Over the years, we have been decreasing the price little by little to now 18–30 cents, but this still cannot compete with fossil fuels that are all less than 10 cents. In order to solve this problem, we would need to improve the amount of energy received from the solar cells. We could achieve this by finding alternative materials to use on the cells to expand the
"Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics," announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. "What is your topic Cindy?" As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. "Waffles are better than pancakes." I figured that a waffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. "Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!" I survived to live yet another day. As I walked to lunch, I went around and asked everyone the age old question: "Do you like

Persuasive Essay On Climate Change
Not everyone in the world has noticed that the climate has changed throughout the years. The negativity of climate alternation comes from pollution, weather, and temperature changes, which will endanger the earth. However, it's possible that some people in the world are willing to help; people are trying to decrease the chances of climate modification from raising. Even though climate change is very bad for the earth and toward humans, no one can put an end to this problem due to several causes which will affect us. Three different outcomes that surround the topic climate change comes from our human activities, environment changes, and human health issues. These are the reasons why it causes climate changes to create negative effects on the earth.
Greenhouse gases are the reason why climate change has affected the environment for many years. Changes that can happen in the environment could be how cold is the temperature today, how much sunlight is being produced during the day or is there enough clean water. The environment gets affected when "the atmosphere traps the heat radiate into the Earth toward space" (NASA 1). When that happens the environment will change the "impacts on human systems which involve food production, local livelihoods, and health" issues (Environment and Climate Change Canada). Different type of effects that can happen to the earth could be "sea levels, droughts, floods and other extreme weathers, climate change ecosystem and extinction threats" (Greenpeace International 1). Other living things such as insect, bird, or plant will be extinct or will move to different places in the world and this will affect human health issues (National Geographic 1). These issues will cause trouble to the earth's environment, and it's not possible to know when the problems will turn more worst. Ice melting from the Arctic has increased, due to climate change and it will harm the polar bears, seals, and penguins (National Geographic 1). My grandmother has grown vegetables in her backyard, and as the climate changes, this affects the growing process of the food. In the summer when I go outside the temperature has increased from the radiated of the sun shining towards me.
