Reflections on a Graduate Program
Reflections Upon a Graduate Program Upon completing a stage in life, such as the completion of a graduate program, it is productive to reflect upon that experience and ponder the motivation for that course of action, as well as ponder the utility of that experience. As my graduate program comes to a conclusion, now is the time for me to discuss the components of the program that have been of particular value to me, and why such program components have been of value. I appreciated learning about different teaching methodologies and perspectives regarding education. I found that learning about constructivism and objectivism quite valuable. I always knew that there were philosophical concepts that supported specific teaching methods, but I only had a superficial understanding of such ideas. Learning in greater detail about such topics helped me understand my own educational experience in a new dimension. It also helped me consider the value of a variety of perspectives to be used in the classroom. Good teaching for me includes of variety of methods that are known, used, and balanced as part of the teaching and learning experiences. I also found value in these topics because it helped me discern what kind of teaching practice I naturally gravitate towards, as well as help expose my weakness in teaching methodology. Overall, I think it helped me understand how to be a balanced teaching professional, and ways to achieve or strive for that balance. There was great value to
Non-Traditional Students Essay example
With today's changing world and the economy the way it is, it is not uncommon for people of all ages to enter the college setting. In fact, two–thirds of students entering the college setting are classified non–traditional (Brown, 2007). Bill (2003) found that there was an 11% increase of non–traditional student enrollment from 1991–1998 displaying 35% in 91 and 46% in 1998. These numbers have since increased according to Jacobson & Harris (2008) showing that half to 75% of undergraduates consist of the non–traditional student sitting the reasons for reentering the college setting to be economic. The traditional student on the other hand may find it beneficial to be a part of peer counseling programs or internships.
Question # 2 Career Counseling can be beneficial to everyone that seeks employment. However, when seeking advice and assistance on something as important as a career, people should know the credentials of the counselor. Many individuals that pursue career counseling follow a variety of code of ethics and ethical guidelines according to Brown (2007). With this being said, it is important that career counseling practice should be regulated.
According to Porter, Gildon, & Zgliczynski (2000), people claiming to be counselors is a serious problem in the state of California because no formal standards are set for appropriate licensure except for that of a marriage counselor. This lack of standards and credentials causes many problems for those seeking advice and assistance with a particular problem. More importantly, the public is not protected even if they take a case to court and the "counselor" is found guilty. What is to be taken away? College Degrees Vs. High School Diplomas
College Degrees vs. High School Diplomas Over the past twenty years there has been an enormous rise in America with more people than ever going to college and earning a degree, with this being done it leads to a much more knowledgable country but, what happens to all those who don't go to college and stop their education with a diploma? Around 65 percent of Americans go to college with numbers know surpassing how many americans attend a church regularly. I believe this is a good statistic with around 45 of the 65 percent graduating from college. This leads to more competition in the workplace and also higher annual salaries amongst the population. I'm however not saying that you must attend college to earn a higher salary but, on average people with a bachelor's degree earns nearly a million dollars more over the span of forty years (Wong 2016). People who don't attend college usually fill doing the job of construction worker, garbage man, or customer service like positions such as Walmart and McDonalds. Nothing is wrong with any of these jobs but many would agree that they take a bigger toll on our bodies than being an accountant sitting at a desk or even a lawyer reviewing paperwork. The point is that when people are fifty their bodies won't be completely destroyed where it hurts to even get out of bed instead they will be more refreshed leading to longer, healthier, and happier years ahead. All college graduate jobs play a crucial role in society as well as the typical
The Between Undergrad And Grad Essay
To someone who hasn't been through grad school, there isn't much difference between the undergrad and grad coursework. Yet this preconceived notion could be further from the truth. Without a doubt, the level of study for a graduate program is more rigorous and demanding than study involved at the undergrad level. I've discovered only others who are in or have completed grad school truly understand what it is like. Further insights on how the two levels of study differ can be found below. Reading. First, while undergrad courses require reading, it barely compares to the amount required at the graduate level. Grad school entails a tremendous amount of reading, ranging anywhere from 50–100 pages per week. And if you are taking multiple courses, be ready to multiply that figure. The only way to accomplish it all is to realize it is near impossible to read all the material cover to cover. Expectation that you don't read it all, but rather skim the articles and pull out main points. As a result I have learned a different way to approach reading articles and develop an understanding of the material. Reflection. Along with the extensive reading comes a high level of reflection of the material covered. Personally, I believe this is the paramount difference between undergrad and grad study. In undergrad you learn what you already know and for lack of a better word regurgitate the right answer on a test and move on. In contrast, in grad school you are searching for answers that are
High School Graduation Essay
Graduation
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation is the end of high school, and the beginning to life. I can almost remember that day like it was yesterday, I awoke like on any other school day. It was a gorgeous May morning, the rays of sun flittered through my miniblinds blinding me as if I hadn't seen light in days. I sluggishly dragged my limp body out of...show more content...
Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All the graduates had to meet in the high school library an hour before the ceremonies started, and I promised one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and let myself in like I always do. All of his family members were running throughout the house trying to get ready. I asked his mom where Tony was and she proceeded to tell me that he was in the bathroom getting ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the mirror with his cap and gown on. He look me straight in the eyes and said," Can you believe that we are about to graduate?" I replied," No, it really hasn't set in yet." Tony finished getting ready, and then we left for the high school. The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors' cars. Tony and I walked into the library ten minutes late like usual, and the principal had already started giving instructions. I found my place in line and then was all ears. I couldn't help but look around at all the others. Smiles were plastered on their faces as if they had heard a hilarious joke. Once the principal concluded his speech, the whole senior class paraded down the hallway to the commons in two uniform lines stopping just outside the gymnasium doors. We could hear the band warming up and playing songs. All the people that were standing around me were bubbling
Graduation Speech Essay example
T.S. Eliot once wrote, "What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from." Every landmark in our lives will end but there is always a beginning to an end. As each new path ends a new one begins. Graduation marks the end of a path but as it ends a new path begins.
Life is an adventure. We started out by walking on a winding path as we entered the destination of kindergarten. As our lives ventured on down the winding path, we met new friends and new life experiences along the way. As the path widens, we see ourselves on a country road. We started elementary school and we constantly gained new knowledge to help us progress in our journey. As we continued along in our...show more content...
As the paved path merged, we found ourselves no longer walking, but driving in cars on the highway in high school. Life started to get more challenging and things started to move at a faster pace. In this part of our lives we got to choose which way we wanted to go, left or right. We found hardships up the steep hills and we might have stopped at many intersections. However, we always proceeded with the flow of traffic no matter what obstacle gets in our way, we always managed to get through it. As our lives traveled on the highway, we saw others take different roads along our journey, but we always found ourselves choosing to keep with our commitment of continuing. We all had to make pit stops along the way through homework and projects, but it fueled us to get stronger and helped us gain knowledge to make it up those steep hills and intersections. Finally, when graduation comes, the highway ends and merges to a new beginning as we leave our memories in the past in our rearview mirror. Miles and miles of opportunities await us. However, each one of us has a different goal or route in life, and each of us will find different exits along the way to fulfill our dream. Some of us will take the express lanes and continue our education through college. Some of us might follow the freeway not knowing where fate will take us. Life isn't always easy on the freeway. Some of us might get stuck in traffic jams. Some
500 Word Exit Essay For College Students
The next step of our lives
You're in your last year of college about to graduate, but first, the administration tells you that a 500–word exit essay is required. They want to see how you justify and articulate your preparation for a post–graduate world and to demonstrate final evidence of your written communication skills, but who seriously has time for that? I personally feel like it doesn't make sense for graduates to write an exit essay on top of buying caps and gowns, preparing for their future, and also dealing with other problems.
Even though it's just a simple task , some college students try their hardest to avoid those types of things, especially during graduation week. During graduation week, students are looking forward the time
Graduate Study Challenges and Strategies for Success
In my current role as a nurse educator I feel the desire to pursue my dream of obtaining a master's degree, specializing in nursing education. It has been 27 years since I have sat in the student chair in a classroom; therefore, I anticipate a number of challenges and barriers to overcome. In this paper I will present and describe three challenges that I expect to be faced with over the next two years. I will also discuss the strategies I plan to use to address these challenges.

English is my second language, and that is why, I tend to think in Spanish and then translate into English. Some research shows that bilingualism may actually help the brain to process language differently, and that late learners may not think like native speakers, but they are still capable of mastery of a new set of language skills (Kovelman, Baker & Petitto, 2008). I have always considered English to be a challenging language for foreigners to learn. However, I hope to find that many of the online resources like CWE, APA format, River point, WritePoint and the library at University of Phoenix will help me to develop and improve these weak areas. I also expect to be able to ask students and nursing co–workers to provide feedback of my work. Additionally, I anticipate that my confidence and abilities with language skills will improve with each written assignment and oral presentation. As my comfort level with my English skills increases I expect to be able achieve the concept explain by Benner in her work describing nurses' proficiency levels from novice to expert (Benner, 1984). Currently I would describe my written English proficiency as a novice beginner. A third challenge I will be facing is time management. One of my most important roles in life is being a mother and a wife. Even though my family is very supportive of my decision to go back to school, I recognize that I must set aside time to share with them. I have set up a weekly calendar helping me
Why I Want to Attend Graduate School Essay
I would like to Attend Capella University's Masters Program in School Counseling. I have always known that I wanted to work with children ever since I can remember. Working with children is something that I have always enjoyed doing even if it was tutoring, or just being around them. The reason I want to receive my Master's Degree in School Counseling is to become a Guidance Counselor. Being a guidance counselor you can make a difference in a child's life, whether it's talking to them about their grades, peer pressure, or any of the things that children of all ages go through in school and in life.

At first I was just an assistant for the teachers, but then I became one of the lead teachers. I helped with homework, reading, planning activities, creating the curriculum and a lot more. I stayed with the center throughout the entire school year. When some of the kids came there they were struggling with certain subjects such as reading and math. When they received their first report card the grades were kind of low, but after a while there grades slowly progressed and they were so excited to show me there grades it made me so happy. It made me feel good to know that I made a difference in their lives.
After I finished my needed hours for the internship I still stayed at the center because I felt like the kids there needed me and I made a difference in their lives. I guess the director felt I was such a huge help to the students that they decided to hire me full time. Due to lack of funding the center closed down and the students no longer had a place to go. I still keep in contact with some of the parents and students just to see how they are doing and they all say the same thing, I helped them stay on the right path. Every time I see one of them I know that I made a difference. I am now employed with the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services where I am a Medicaid Eligibility worker. After High School what's next?
When I was a little girl my friends and I always talked about what we were going to be when we grew up. Some said a teacher; others said a nurse, secretary, and even a mom. I knew what I was going to be, but what we don't think about is how we get to be these things. We float through elementary school, having small children fun. Next we go to middle school trying to find our ways in the world, some of us worries about grades, and some don't. Not many thinking ahead of high school, let alone college. In high school we soon realize that grades are very important and better grades give you a better chance at better colleges. So those of us who want to go to college start cramping down on our studies so we can get those desirable grades. I may have not been the perfect student throughout high school. My Study habits could have been better, but one thing I do know is that I want to do more with my life than just a high school diploma.
My thoughts go to what college should I go to? Which one is best? What can I afford? Do I stay on campus or live at home? Maybe get a roommate and share an apartment I'm still not sure about that. I want to take a course to become an Ultrasound Technician. Living here in Allentown, Pa a few choices I have is McCann, and they offer a medical assisting course. I would apply for financial aid and even have to get a student loan. Also there is Northampton Community College, not too far, cost is somewhat more than McCann

Everyone knows that after you complete your undergraduate studies, if you continue to further your education, you enroll in a Master 's program for your graduate studies. There are many unique differences between undergraduate and graduate programs. These differences consist of the subjects in which classes are taken, the sizes of the classrooms, and the length and quality of the papers. This paper will discuss these differences in detail.
Graduate courses are often more along the lines of research topics, emphasizing on the gathering of information, making connections and analyzing. In a graduate program one must think critically and look for similarities between theories and applications. In undergraduate studies, the courses are broader in the fact that the classes are mostly general classes that can be less focused and less informative of those courses of graduate programs. Courses in graduate schools are more focused in detailed topics related to the field of study. The work is substantially more progressed, with the understudy in charge of meeting due dates while diving more profound into the exploration to discover new territories of thought and study to apply to issues.
The most fundamental thing about graduate school is the subject examined can 't be changed as effortlessly as in undergraduate school. Undergraduate programs take into account the examination of

Preparing for Success at the Graduate Level
Preparing for academic success at the graduate level can be a daunting task. First, one must realize the reason they are in a graduate program to begin with. What goals do you hope to achieve in completing a graduate program? The reasons can be many such as better job opportunities, higher income, or perhaps just for the prestige of earning a graduate degree.
Other reasons could include setting a good example for that of your children or gaining the respect of family and friends. Make a plan for working on each assignment and avoid procrastination. Procrastination is one of the biggest challenges for any student. It is easy to put off an assignment until the last minute only to turn in work that is not to the best of your ability because you were rushed.
It is best to plan out certain times throughout the day that can be used to get required reading or research complete. You can get more accomplished throughout the week if you take it a little at a time. Consistency will yield more results than trying to get all of an assignment complete at the last minute. The student can also prepare all the materials needed for an assignment in advance.
It is much easier to complete an assignment if you have all the required resources readily available ahead of time. There is an enormous difference between undergraduate classes and classes taken in a graduate degree plan. Student's that are in an undergraduate degree plan are expected to summarize material that is researched or given to them for a paper.
According to Lavelle and Bushrow (2007), "the increased writing demands of courses at the graduate level, including greater emphasis on depth and breadth, demand for genre competence, and often expectation for publication, merely reporting or "summarizing" are insufficient" (Lavelle & Bushrow, 2007). The graduate student must expand their writing skills
