Personal Timeline Essay
Personal Timeline Throughout my lifetime, I have experienced many different milestones that have made me the person I am today. Some of these milestones were difficult and traumatic, while others were very special and joyous events. I feel like a person has to face both the good and the bad times in order to grow. I was born on May 14th, 1989, which happened to be Mother's Day. I was my parent's first daughter to an older son. My brother Zachary and I are only eighteen months apart in age, which made us very close friends growing up. I have always lived in Rising Sun, Indiana. My mother is from Rising Sun and my father is from Roanoke, Virginia. I am proud of the fact that I am very close with my family. In 1993, when I was four...show more content...
I know she is looking down on me very proudly for sticking to my goals and continuing school to become a registered nurse. When I graduate, she has a box put up for me that I get to have with all of her nursing stuff in it, like her hat, pin, stethoscope, and a lot of other neat things that I will always cherish. Something that I really became interested in while I was in school was the sport cheerleading. When I was in the seventh grade, the year 2001, I tried out for the team for the first time and made it. I will never forget how happy and excited I was to try something new. I had always been the shy, timid little girl and now I had a chance to try something completely different. It was always hard for me to make friends because of how shy I was. With cheerleading, I made lifelong friends that I still keep in contact with. I cheered all throughout middle and high school. This memory is something that will stay with me forever and is a very happy and special time for me. When I was a junior in high school, my life made a turn for the worst. I met a boy named Mike that I started dating. He was an older boy and I thought I really liked him. We spent a lot of time together because he didn't like being apart from me. I took this as a compliment that a guy would want to spend every waking second with me because I was young and stupid. Then I started noticing some really strange patterns happening with Mike. He would show up at my school
Infographic Analysis
Now although I am a fan of superhero movies, I feel based on what we have learned that this infographic would be an effective infographic. Because it falls with the three factors that I referenced with the previous infographic. The superhero infographic refers to countless films, but the holiday movie infographic compares two notable films as the top selling films since 1980. The referenced films, which both star Jim Carrey, are How The Grinch Stole Christmas and A Christmas Carol.

1.The first factor that the graphic fulfills is the appealing visuals. The color utilized by this infographic is key because of the theme of the graphic, holiday movies. The graphic uses familiar imagery to the holidays in recognizing the overall subject from the Christmas trees, Christmas ornaments and candy canes. The graphic color and imagery is just as bold as the text utilized so the reader could decide what catches their eye more. Could the color be more visual, sure, but unlike the previous graphic the color...show more content...
The insight is there because the significance of holiday movies in Hollywood is mentioned. The tutorial about infographics stated that insight is key to a good infographic, perhaps the insight could have been more pronounced but in this case, it is established at the hub of the graphic. But the utilized text that is featured in an infographic that is not excessive is a key for a good infographic.
3.The third factor, is the information conveyed clearly? The information is stated in the graphic and unlike the previous graphic does not present the information in a cluttered fashion. The graphs clarity stands out in this infographic than the superhero infographic because the information is not heavy to fit the additional visualizations. Without good visuals, the message of the subject would not be pronounced, it is a further selling point towards the overall
Naturalistic Observation Essay
Naturalistic Observation
In order to study human development and perform naturalistic observation I went to the mall. I selected a 9–year–old white girl as the subject for my observation. I observed the subject for 30 minutes. During my observation the subject was not interrupted and was not aware of my study.
The girl was spending time with her mother and brother at the mall. She was enjoying herself. She played some games with her brother. The games included jumping and running. During one of the games the girl had a short conversation with her brother. After that the girl started drawing pictures in her notebook. Mother of the subject had a very satisfied expression on her face...show more content...
During my observation the girl demonstrated that she was able to work in a team with her brother. She was friendly and well socialized. According to Erikson's stages of social and emotional development this kind of behavior means that the girl was on the 'school age' stage. It is absolutely normal to be on this stage of social and emotional development at the age of 9.
After my observation I came to the conclusion that the subject meets the milestones and stages for the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Judging from the drawing that the girl made we can assume that the girl is gifted. According to my naturalistic observation there is nothing unusual in the development of the girl. According to her age she is absolutely adequate.
The observation was a very interesting and informative process. It gave me the opportunity to apply different theories of development. The biggest advantage of this psychological method is the opportunity to observe the subject in the natural surrounding and watch his natural behavior.
To sum up, during my naturalistic observation I applied Piaget's theory of cognitive development and Erikson's theory of emotional and social development. Both of these theories gave me the opportunity to understand the subject better. According to my observation, all physical skills of the girl were developed properly. After analysis I came to the conclusion that the subject is on the
MLA Rough Draft
1. When writing, whether you paraphrase or directly quote someone else's ideas anywhere in your paper, you must document the use of those borrowed ideas with an internal citation notation. In MLA, there are two basic features of an internal citation. What are they?
In–text citation – This is a parenthetical citation within the paper that refers the reader to a list of works cited. It commonly includes the author of the source and a page number, and punctuation separates the author's last name and the page number. Nor is the abbreviation p. (for "page") used. The period that ends the sentence appears after the closing parenthesis. 2. In MLA, if you work (include) the identity of the source into the sentence structure, where do page numbers...show more content...
In MLA, how are the works cited entries organized on the Work(s) Cited page?
Tell me how to arrange a works cited list on the page. No example required.
Create a new page at the end of your paper for a "Works Cited" list. Center the words "Works Cited" at the top of the page. Double space after the title and begin entering citations.
Entries are listed alphabetically by the last name of the author or by the first major word of the title if no author is given. If a source has more than one author, it is alphabetized by the last name of the author whose name appears first. The entries are not numbered.
Entries are double–spaced.
The first line of each entry begins at the left margin. If more than one line is needed to complete the entry, additional lines are indented five spaces or half an inch (this is called a hanging indent).
6. In MLA, if the source's identity is not worked into (written as part of) your sentence structure, how does the internal citation look the first time you create it? Use your last name and page number 123 to illustrate your answer.
To correctly answer question 6, show me (don't tell me) how an internal citation looks the first time you cite it in your paper, using your name as the source and page number 123 to complete your response. You don't need to write a sentence first, just show me the

STORES LAYOUT AND PRINCIPLES OF STORES
INTRODUCTION– STORES LAYOUT AND DESIGN
It means the design of a store's interior to encourage people to enter the store and expose them to the maximum variety of merchandise within the space available. For example, some stores have the fresh fruit and vegetable display at the entrance because it is colorful and will attract people in while other stores have fresh foods and other frequently bought items which are located inside the store so people will be exposed to all the other displays when...show more content...
Use of third dimension must be made effectively. Different storage facilities should be situated in clearly defined lanes, so that items are quickly stored and located.
Main lanes should be 1.5 to 3 meters wide depending on the type of material and amount of traffic involved.
Clear markings should be made at storage space to facilitate location and identification.
The fast moving items should be stored near the dispensing window, the slow moving should be away from the window.
FEATURES OF STORES LAYOUT
According to Barton A. Weitz, director of the Center for Retailing Education and Research at the University of Florida in Gainesville, a store layout should do these three things: Stimulate Impulse Purchases
One way retailers use layouts to entice customers to buy more than they intended is to draw them through the store so they'll see as many of the products as possible.
Jewelry stores put their better products toward the back of the store to pull people in, he says, and supermarkets tend to put popular departments––produce, meat, bakery, deli––along the perimeter. Make It Easy To Find Goods

COMPUTERIZED LAYOUT ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES
In the field of computerized layout analysis, a number of computerized layout programs have been developed since the 1960s and 70s. But the most time tested computerized layout techniques and software program packages that are frequently used are– CRAFT, CORELAP, ALDEP, etc. Originally developed in late 60's and early 70s, many of these packages are still around with latest additions to their features.
Layout problems often involve a given number of facilities which must be located in the plane. Each of these facilities has a given area,...show more content...
This technique only utilizes graphic and schematic analysis for materials flow but does present a well–organized enumeration of pertinent qualitative factors. These factors are incorporated into a methodology for the determination of which sub–groups or departments most require adjacent placement as well as for the evaluation of several proposed layout solutions.
CORELAP
CORELAP is Computerized Relationship Layout Planning. This algorithm is based on Muther's procedure given in Systematic Layout Planning. The input requirements to CORELAP are –Number of departments and their area, Closeness relationship as given by REL–chart and Weighted ratings for REL–chart entries.
Working with Corelap:
CORELAP (Computerized Relationship Layout Planning) is a simple method in facility layout and location discipline which is usually used to design a factory and facility. As a facility of living, house should be designed by using CORELAP method. Following this is an example of house design in 180m2 land (12 meters x 15 meters). There are 3 steps to design with CORELAP method such as plan the rooms, size, and room's relationship; calculation and design the CORELAP; and draw a draft layout.
First, a house consists of 15 rooms that the name of room, size, and relationship are showed in the "Activity/Space Relationship Diagram" and "Relationship Table" below. The rating of relationship between two rooms is sign as A, E, I, O, U, or X. The definition of "A" is absolutely
The Unique Layout Of IKEA
Firstly, IKEA designs its operation in terms of a unique layout of their floorplan. An IKEA store is a combination of both a retail outlet and a warehouse.
IKEA organizes its retail outlet by a "maze–like" structure in which one area is where furniture are placed in a showroom format, where another is where all the similar items are grouped together. Designing the retail store in a "maze–like" structure have a psychological impact on customers' decision–making skills regarding purchasing its products. This is because by holding their customers as long as possible, the better product knowledge they will have and they will feel more compelled to buy IKEA's goods, thus increasing IKEA's sales.
At the warehouse area, it provides customers with...show more content...
Lastly, there is always an in–store logistics in every IKEA store to oversee the overall operation of IKEA.
An in–store logistics is tasked to handle inventory management of the store such as monitoring and recording deliveries, carefully check delivery notices, sort and separate the goods, and get them off to the correct sales area or designated overstock locations. IKEA's Inventory are managed using the high flow (facilitates goods in high demand) and low flow (manual facilities for goods in low demand) warehouse facilities which helps IKEA to decrease the overall operating cost.
The in–store logistics managers will order based on the forecasted amount of sales through the warehouse management system and also to reorder stocks based on the inventory replenishment management process which is the minimum (minimum amount of products available before reordering) or maximum (maximum amount of a particular product to order at one time) settings. Such setting will be able to meet customer demand
Description Of A Facility Layout
Introduction "A facility layout can be defined as an arrangement of all that is needed for production of a good or delivery of service, and a facility is a unit that enables the routine of a certain job." (Rattan, 2012) Many companies use different layouts to accommodate the needs and wants of the company. Just think about every time you walk into a Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, etc... The layout is what works best for the overall customer experience. In order for a company to receive great productivity from its workers and provide the customers with a memorable experience, they must decide on the layout of the facility. Although many may believe this is a very easy process, it really isn't!
The layout of the facility is very...show more content...
Importance Facility layout is very important to me because of its contribution to economic performance of the company or departments, and it provides a competitive advantage for me as well as the company. If the layout of the facility is not properly done, a company could lose out on money, capital, customers, investors, etc... A facility that has a proper layout would be a library. The library has areas where books are listed in many different categories, an information counter where books can be checked out or an attendant is available for questions, computers, socket outlets, printers, staplers, etc... The layout of each library is different based on the type of customers but it still maintains the overall objective which is to provide a quiet space for learning. If the layout of a library or even a hospital was not done properly, there would be all kind of chaos and confusion. In the library you would have individuals talking loudly, eating, chewing gum, and not providing the overall objective of the library. This would be the same case in a hospital. The patients would be confused on where to check in, how to get to the rooms; locate parking garages, etc... This would tarnish the reputation of the company; cause a lot of complaints, increase the wait times, loss of customers, loss of money, etc... "The basic objective of layout is to ensure a smooth flow of work, material, and information through a system. The
Definition Of Spatial Layout And Functionality
consumers who were dining under dimmed lighting has higher level of comfort, than customers dining under higher levels of lighting. Further, Ryu and Hand (2011) affirmed that "customers who dine in a relaxing environment, with softer lighting, eat less, stays longer and enjoy their meal more." Similarly, Sulek and Hensley (2004) stated "customers in fine–dining restaurants would eat more as the tranquil atmosphere would make them to stay longer and order more food and drinks."
Bitner (1992) indicated that spatial layout "symbolises the ways in which furnishings, equipment and machineries are organized, the shape and size of those items, and the spatial relations among them, with functionality establishing the ability of those items to facilitate performance and the attainment of goals." Similarly, Wakefield and Blodgett (2016) asserts that spatial layout and functionality are the way in which furniture is set–up or equipment spaced out.
A spatial layout may have a direct influence on customer's value perceptions, desirability, and excitement levels, and an indirect influence on the need to return (Wakefield & Blodgett, 2016). For example, the settings of tables in restaurants can have a positive effect on the overall experience of a consumer. How dining tables are laid out has the ability to convey a sense of privacy, portrays the functionality desired, and works as border for the consumer (Lin, 2004).
Furthermore, symbols and artifacts, which include signage, personal
Campus Descriptive Essay
West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every morning I would wake up knowing that I have the privilege of attending a good school with a breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering into my room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow classmates walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for the day. I cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day. As I stepped outside for the first time I felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a breath of fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped for a minute to admire how the sun was shining down on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers worked hard planting the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden yellow. Walking further down the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub v" on every passing persons clothing. Most of my classmates were in a rush to get to class, but I took my time just absorbing my surroundings. A strong breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass to my nose and embraced me as I continued my journey to class. Passing several students on my way, nodding my head in acknowledgement, a few familiar faces make eye contact and smile. The weather that day was perfect, not too hot, but

A group technology (GT) layout is similar to a process layout in that cells are designed to perform a specific set of processes, and it is similar to a product layout in that the cells are dedicated to a limited range of products. (Group technology also refers to the parts classification and coding system used to specify machine types that go into a cell.) In a fixed–position layout, the product (by virtue of its bulk or weight) remains at one location. Manufacturing equipment is moved to the product rather than vice versa. Construction sites and movie lots are examples of this format. Many manufacturing facilities present a combination of two layout types. For example, a given production area may be laid out by process, while another area may be laid out by product. It is also common to find an entire plant arranged according to product layout– for example, a parts fabrication area followed by a subassembly area, with a final assembly area at the end of the process. Different types of layouts may be used in each area, with a process layout used in fabrication, group technology in subassembly, and a product layout used in final assembly.
P R O C E S S L AYO U T q q q The most common approach to developing a process layout is to arrange departments consisting of like processes in a way that optimizes their relative placement.
The study conducted by Mackey et al., (2009) is focused on defining how and why patients of working age that suffered from burn returned to a job or remained unemployed. The researchers have chosen qualitative study design because the quantitative design is unable to answer why and how patients returned to a job or remained unemployed. Therefore, the purpose of this study perfectly aligns with the design of the study. The authors described the design in details and provided all relevant information. They emphasized that in qualitative studies participants are selected purposefully, therefore it is highly helpful for answering the research question (Mackey et al., (2009). The sampling was done by choosing patients with 10% to 25% of total TBSA from QVH Burns Centre database between 1998 and 2006 (Mackey et al., (2009)....show more content...
The researchers managed to contact only 26 participants who matched the criteria described above. All the participants were split into three groups: those who returned to the same or similar job, those who changed their job or returned on a part–time basis, and those who remained unemployed (Mackey et al., (2009). To obtain qualitative data needed for the study the researchers used semi–structured qualitative interviews conducted in the patients' own homes (Mackey et al., (2009). Before conducting the interviews, participants were contacted by telephone (Mackey et al., (2009). When interviews were conducted, researchers used qualitative coding to categorize the participants (Mackey et al., (2009). It can be claimed that the way how data was obtained and analyzed aligns with the purpose and the design of this study. To minimize bias researchers used investigator triangulation by performing interviews by two–named researchers. The researchers didn't provide any information about the limitation of this
A Career as a Social Worker Essay
A social worker has a very important job. Social workers help children and families in need of food, homes, and health care. They help children have a brighter future. There are many different types of social work. There are mental health, child and family, elementary, and high school social workers. There are advantages to being a social worker. One example is social workers get to save children. They take the child or children out of an abusive home, weather that is mental abuse, or physical abuse. Social workers also find ways to help the family if they have an illness and can not take care of the child or children, or have a problem with drugs or alcohol and are unfit to care for the child or children. Even on rare occasions, that the child is being abused as the social worker is in the home, they may need to make a decision to weather or not to take affirmative action and take the child out of the home right then in that moment, or wait. Also when becoming a social worker, the job will require that everyone who is involved in the situation is receiving help. According to the Child Care Careers book this may include giving individual help to every person in the situation. Such as, if the mother is a drug addict, she may require some rehab. Or if the father is very ill, he will need medical attention. Or if the parent(s) and a little insane or have brain trouble, they might need to go to an insane asylum. Every person involved in the situation needs individual "game plans". One treatment does not fit all. Each individual person has a specific plan to help them with the problem he or she may have. This may include medicine, medical attention, schooling, or even jail. For the child this might include schooling, medical attention, or even foster homes. To be in this field of work, a proper education is required. The Child Care Career Book says "a masters degree in social work is needed if this person would like to go into the mental health, research, or supervisory positions". It also states that, "A doctorate id required for teaching and desirable for some research and administrative jobs". Also a social worker at my school said
Audience Analysis Essay
Over the course of my observations of McComas Gym's weight room, it was easy to figure out what type of audience would be interested in my essay. Based off this audience, I developed a persona who represents the weight room community by combining many of the characteristics I observed in individuals in the weight room. My developed persona is an ideal representative of an "insider" to the weight room community, as well as a representative of my essay's audience. The type of audience who would be interested in the essay I wrote would be members of the actual weight lifting community. An example of this would be managers using the data I present in my essay about the weight room to decide which machines they should reduce, and which machines or pieces of equipment they should order more of. I developed a character to be a representative of the main audience for my essay by taking the characteristics of individuals observed in McComas' weight room and combining them into one persona. Based off of this, the persona is a male Virginia Tech college student who is familiar with the weight room and the concepts of body building. He is in good physical shape, and wears typical gym clothing, such as gym shorts, sweatpants, t–shirts, or wife–beaters. He has long–term experience with the majority of the weight and machines found in McComas' weight room, and falls into the category of "serious lifters," rather than just an occasional gym–goer. He is very perseverant in his work out regiment, and has a focused mindset. The persona I described above is an "insider" of the McComas weight room community, as well as the larger weight lifting community as a whole. As an insider, my character is a part of the weight lifting community rather than just an observer. In the case of the specific community which I chose to write about, I believed that an insider persona would be better suited to represent the audience I am writing to versus an outsider, simply
3 Newspaper Design Layouts: Gutenberg Diagram, Z–Pattern, And F–Pattern
Several layout patterns are often recommended to take advantage of how people scan or read through a design. 3 of the more common are the Gutenberg diagram, the z–pattern layout, and the f–pattern layout.
Each offers advice for where to place important information, but I think these patterns are often misunderstood and followed without thought to what they really describe.
I want to walk through the what and why of each pattern and then offer something else that gives you as a designer more control over where your viewer's eye moves across your design.
The Gutenberg Diagram
The Gutenberg diagram describes a general pattern the eyes move through when looking...show more content...
It's how we naturally read large blocks of text.
This series of z–movements is sometimes referred to as a zig–zag pattern. If we continue to add more zigs and zags to the pattern we ultimately end up with a series of near horizontal right and left movements as the diagonal portion of the z gets shallower and shallower.
Golden Triangle Pattern
The z–pattern also leads to what's called a golden triangle pattern. If you take the first horizontal and first diagonal movement and then close the shape you end up with a right triangle whose right angle is the top/left corner.
This triangular area at the top of the page will be the area most seen and the pattern suggests your most important information needs to placed inside of it.
F–Pattern Layout
The f–pattern gets mentioned on the web and as you would expect it follows the shape of the letter F.
I think Jacob Nielsen first suggested the pattern after eye–tracking studies his company performed. What often gets lost in the f–pattern is that these original studies were done on text heavy designs and search results.
As with the other patterns the eye starts in the top/left, moves horizontally to the top/right and then comes back to the left edge before making another horizontal sweep to the right. This second sweep

Work cell requires identification of families of products, high level of training, flexibility and empowerment of employees, being self–contained and test (poka–yoke) at each station in the cell. Product–oriented layouts are organized around products or families of similar high–volume, lowvariety products. The objective of the product–oriented layout is to minimize imbalance in the fabrication or assembly line. However, product layout can handle only a few products and process designs. There are two types of a product–oriented layout. These are fabrication and assembly lines. Fabrication line is a machine–paced, product oriented facility for building components. On the other hand, assembly line is an approach that puts fabricated parts together at a series of workstations. It is used in repetitive processes. A well–balanced assembly line has the advantage of high personnel and facility utilization and equity among employees' work loads. Assembly–line balancing is obtaining output at each workstation on a production line so delay is minimized. Line balancing is usually undertaken to minimize imbalance between machines or personnel while meeting a required output from the line. WHAT IS A PLANT LAYOUT?
Plant layout refers to the arrangement of physical facilities such as machines, equipment, tools, furniture etc. in such a manner so as to have quickest flow of material at the lowest cost and with the least amount of handling in processing the product from the receipt of raw material to the delivery of the final product. A layout is the physical configuration of departments, workstations, and equipments in the conversion process. It is the arrangement of physical resources used to create the product. Plant layout has to be planned in such a flexible way so as to enhance the productivity, with minimum loss. It has to be planned in a way taking into consideration the inputs. Layout planning provides a set of tools and techniques that help an operations manager to decide where to locate the resources and also to assess the impact of the alternative choices that he/she may have for locating the resources. Typically, in case of manufacturing organizations, there may be over 100 machine tools that need to be located in the area so as to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the work being progressed. Similarly, in case of service organization such as hospital, school, or a hotel, there are various resources to be physically located. We can identify these best possible locations for each of the machines or

In this assignment, the author has chose to critically analyse a situation where a second year nursing student Catherine, who is on a 7 week clinical placement is having an issue when communicating with patients at times.
Using Borton's reflective model, the author identifies appropriate teaching and learning strategies to improve Catherine's communication skills.
