The Criminal Justice system has been broken because it is very bias towards minorities. There is a lot of discrimination from policing, to trial, to sentencing. The war on drugs and the war on poverty defines the difference because the criminal justice system has always been harsh with minorities. There are more than two million people in prisoned today. This is a multi–million business in America and officers had imprisoned people for insignificant things, such as passing the traffic light, and for not stopping at a stop sign. This is when the community feel betrayed by the police, they do not trust them anymore. People's lives become miserable and many times the consequences people face is to commit suicide.

Beyond the Borders training has a focus on shifting the church from the place of judgement and condemnation to that of restoration and compassion, regarding individuals involved in crime in the inner city. This is developed from the self–evaluation approach. Its goal is to produce a level of empathy where engagement can birth another option to those who find themselves in the cycle of crime as a result of poverty.

Which is more important: legal justice, divine justice, or revenge? In A Study in Scarlet Arthur Conan Doyle proposes these three similar concepts as interchangeable. In the story, there was a murder and the police force asked Sherlock Holmes, an eccentric genius, to help them solve the case because they were stumped. When Sherlock solves the case and the murder tells his story, the difference between divine justice and revenge start to blur with the legal justice of the story. When this happens, as readers we start to question what the ethical thing to do is. If you look to the story, it will give you an argument for each of these being the most important form of justice, but it seems as though they make the strongest case for one in particular. The story supports legal justice as the most important form of justice in the way the case was treated, the way the murderer was treated, and the motive of the murderer. Before going into college to study Criminal Justice, I had the same opinion as most people had when it came to criminals or deviant behavior. The classic "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime," phrase was mentioned many times throughout my youth, whether it be for something as simple as an explanation for grounding me or to explain why doing the wrong things will give you a one–way ticket to prison. My life was surrounded by crime. I managed to separate myself from the "wrong–doers" with the help of my mother, but I still spent most of my life around law enforcement. To me, police officers were always the ones doing everything right. In my mind, if someone died at the hands of a police officer it was probably their fault, if they were beaten they deserved it, the police were only doing what they had to do to make our communities a safer place. Consequently, I believe my thought process not only started with law enforcement officers, but also ended there as well. There was not mention of what happened in prisons such as their conditions or even the social construction that occurs inside. There was no news cast or school discussion on the impact of America's prison systems on the defiant individual. Therefore, their wellbeing was not my concern. The criminal justice system is necessary for us to live in a safe and trustworthy society. Police officers, the judicial system and the system itself is beneficial in many ways such as allowing citizens to feel safe and secure in their communities, having a zero–tolerance on criminal acts and believing everything will have a consequence, either good or bad. To summarize, my view or stance has not changed regarding the criminal justice system and law enforcement; however, what has changed is my naivety regarding the criminal judicial system. Before I took this class I believed that once a subject is arrested for committing a crime, the criminal is sent to jail and that is the end of it. However, it is not always that way; an example that exemplifies flaws in the criminal justice system is the sentence of Brock Turner, a Stanford student athlete that was caught sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster, he was subsequently arrested and was found guilty for three felonies including: assault with intent to rape an intoxicated woman, sexually penetrating an intoxicated person with a foreign object and sexually penetrating an unconscious person with a foreign object. In the end through various plea deals, Brock Turner only received a six–month jail sentence and three–year parole. Aside from his youthful age and remorse, it has been shown that he should have been faced with at least a fourteen–year prison sentence regardless of his circumstances. Another I believe that to be effective in deterring crime and show non–bias there should be minimum sentences across the board. All in all, I believe that the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) is most effective in measuring crime mostly due to number of offenses that is covered under NIBRS unlike the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) which only carries data regarding 21 offenses. In the criminal justice field, the two careers I am considering are Law and Criminal Law Paralegal. I have known for the past years that I wanted to be in a job that contributes to the betterment of society while helping others around me. These two lines of work seem exciting and challenging.

The system is composed of many independent entities within all levels of government. The question that I have when I want to minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice is why U.S have the highest prisoners compare to others countries. I want to figure out why it is the case. From Prison State Frontline video, I realized that the rate of people who are drug addicted and mentality ill are high. For example, locking people for traffic fines, locking people for small amount of drug or marijuana, locking up people who are intoxicated in the public will not help the public more safety. Problems And Solutions In Criminal Justice

The problems surrounding the criminal justice system range from a variety of issues in different areas of the system. But i believe they are all connected back to a societal problem, that has to do with a outdated philosophical notion "redemptive violence". I will break down each aspect, which i find most troubling. I will cover problems between policing and peacekeeping, corrections options, and the issue of redemptive violence which is a major issue in the philosophy of the criminal justice system. These issues represent problems that have always been key topics when discussing problems of ethics in criminal justice. Policing and Peacekeeping are roles that have long been debated in usefulness to stopping crime. Corrections comes with the reality of incarceration having little chance of success but more likely a higher rate of recidivism. I well also touch on briefly the issues of attorney discretion. The core components revealed in this course are definitions of crime in nature as harm causing behavior, the descriptions and classifications of criminals, the analysis of crime, profiles of everyday victims and offenses, and the origin of crime. The field of probation relies heavily on these components in order to understand and properly categorize offenders, stay aware of offender's mental and emotional status, and attempt to predict the future of criminal offenders. The various theories presented in Criminology 262 help shape the Dallas County Adult Probation Department and serve as model types used to minimize the risks associated with sentencing alternatives. The agency assesses the same theoretical categories provided by Criminology 262 such as sociological, biological, and psychological explanations of crime in an attempt to better deal with offenders.
