Myself As An Artist
I am a artist. A artist is a person who enjoys practicing there creativity though a range of different mediums on different types of canvases, no matter the skill set of that person. When you hear the word artist you think of a person who draws, and paints every chance they get because they love the idea of creating something new. But when I think of myself as an artist I don't see that I see a person who loves to paint and draw, well draw mostly, but only because she is doing it for other reasons like for a grade or something. In my case it is for a grade. Every since I have been taking an art class i have learned to put my creativity into a piece of art that I have to turn in to a teacher. I no longer fine myself drawing or scathing in my free time anymore like when I was a little kid. Now I draw because I have to. Even though I do see myself as an artist, I don't feel like one sometimes. I mean what is the definition of an artist anyway? Is it a person who sits and draws all day because they love it or some one who is supposed to draw or paint for the fun of it, for the enjoyment that you like to create something beautiful. For instance, I had showed my cousin some of my art work and she said that I was really good and that I should go to an art school when I'm older but I caught myself thinking that why did I even create those pieces, would I still have made those pieces if I weren't getting graded for them. When she had said that it brought back memories of me when I was
The Concept of Self Essay
The Concept of Self
Who am I? What am I? Where am I going? These questions have baffled the minds of humankind for centuries, since man was able to evolve a concept of self and consider his own nature. Man has come a long way since that day, but has no further answers in the quest for "Self–Concept". Who we are is, and always will be a reflection of different yet individual societies and environments in which we live. The roles we play in our specific societies give us a place of belonging and self. The self as an entity exists on two levels: mental and physical.
Diverse environments and habitats are what give us our individuality and our ideas of self. What I mean is; would I be the same person I am now if I was born and...show more content...
As of now, I live and have always lived in a free, peaceful society. The role I hold in my specific society makes me who I am and gives me a place of belonging. To participate in society, we must become increasingly more considerate of others and less self–centered. Let us examine the first statement. "Who am I" "I" as a physical entity exist due to the laws of physics. Atomic structure is very real, and has been proven through scientific experimentation. I know, from Einstein's Theory of relativity that everything is energy. Everything is made up of atoms in exact sequence with one another making up solid forms through atomic bonds. Separation of these bonds is how we break objects apart. From Science, everything has atomic structure. I know I have a physical form, and that I am a solid entity and know this because it is true. I have what we call through linguistics a "body" and I have solid structure. All humans share the same basic physical makeup whether they like it or not. It's slight variations in physical appearance that creates racism and discrimination. The idea of a superior race or gender is absurd, but unfortunately it exists through people's insecurities and false cognitions of superiority. Example, I have a penis and I am Anglo–Saxon, therefore I am superior. The false idea that superiority is found through sexual gender and or racial makeup is what will probably be the downfall of the human race. Not to stray from topic, but
I Am Proud of Who I Am Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment". Who am I? is question that many often struggle to answer, but for me it allows me to differentiate from my constituents and express who I really am. What makes me such a unique individual is my ability to identify with 5 strong strengths. I love the fact that I am futuristic and I have the ability to relate, I am responsible, I am a developer and last but not least I am disciplined. Each one these themes shape and generate my personality. Born on February 22nd 2000 I am the only daughter to Rob and Theresa Jones. Whenever I set a goal, I first ask myself is the goal realistic and reachable and secondly if I am willing to make changes in my life to reach those goals. While I have several goals there are a few that are imperative to reach. One of them being a counseling center for underprivileged girls ages K–12. As a victim and an advocate for bullying I want to highlight the situation and teach the girls how to detect signs and how to deal with a bully. I had my parents to help me but my goal is to target those that don't necessarily receive that attention at home. Self esteem will also is a big topic surrounding girls in that age group I want to teach them about positive body image and the importance of loving yourself. Obtaining my Ph.D. is another meaningful goal I intend to achieve; with myself being the first generation from my family to attend a major university I feel the need to reach my highest potential. Setting big goals, taking small steps and being focused in my pursuit I know I will achieve all I set my mind to. The definition of a relator is someone who is especially talented in enjoying close relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal. When I look back and reflect on personal influences in my life, no one has made a greater impact than those of my parents. All I am I owe to my

Reflective Essay About Myself
Walking into my fifth grade classroom for the millionth time, I searched around the room to see if there was anyone like me. A girl with chocolate skin. For as long as I can remember, I was the only one in my grade, ever since I started school. But this did not mean I did not have friends. Caterina and I were best friends that year. She was from Venezuela, had white olive skin with long blonde hair, and light eyes. One school day, when we were walking to P.E., she said to me "I like your hair because it stays in place." A little taken back, I was not sure if this a compliment or not, but I said thank you anyway. Her comment had stayed with me for the rest of the day. I began to wonder why my hair grew the way it did and if I could change it. This was, thus the beginning of my insecurities. Going to school every few months with a different hairstyle would raise a few questions for my classmates. Different styles, such as, box braids and marley twists, would change my attitude because I no longer looked the way I felt most of the time, ugly. But because I knew my look was only temporary, I did my best not to draw attention to myself. As I advanced grades, I always hoped there would be someone like me. Not necessarily student. After fifth grade, I figured I might as well conquer eighth grade alone. It would at least be nice to have a teacher to talk to about when I get angry about each day instead of keeping everything bottled up. A person "... to vent [my] frustrations,

Analysis Of Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
In Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay, titled "Self–Reliance," he centers around how individuals should avoid conformity and false consistency. While still following their own beliefs and ideas, people should follow their hearts and be true to themselves. He idolizes the idea of expressing yourself and not being afraid to share your opinions, even if it may be incorrect. Additionally, Emerson strongly argues that people should refuse to conform and be pressured into the ways of popular culture and their ideas, such as giving back to charity. He expresses how it is okay to be misunderstood by others and to not be afraid to change your mind about things. People should not be intimidated or scared to be themselves, but instead they should accept their...show more content...
A significant point made was, 'that imitation is suicide' meaning that when one imitates another, they give up who they truly are. Giving up who you are is equivalent to abandoning your personality and attempting to be someone else is unoriginal. Therefore, imitation is like killing yourself both inside and out. Society is obsessed with the lives of celebrities and it has been found that American's are very focused on celebrity culture. According to Howard Altman's article on "Celebrity Culture," he includes a statement claiming that, "The constant barrage of celebrity has led more and more people to risk their dignity, and even their lives in some cases, for the crack–like high of their "15 minutes of fame," as artist Andy Warhol famously put it" (Altman). Humans are so fascinated with the attention that famous celebrities receive in their daily lives. They are willing to set themselves up for failure or humiliation just for fame. Society has conformed so much to popular culture they must follow exactly what celebrities do. Altman also infers that the culture of celebrities brings negative effects on society. He asserts that, "... children's mental health suffers the more they believe that happiness comes from money, fame and beauty" (Altman). This comes to show that humans should not conform to the ways of popular culture, as it negatively impacts the way people think life should be like. Emerson also feels that society takes a toll on the growth of individuality. It restrains one's self from being unique and original. Not only does he urge his readers to avoid conformity throughout his essay, additionally, he wishes for them to follow their heart and
What I Learned About Myself Essay
This class has taught me a lot about myself in such a brief period of time. I never thought I could dig as deep as I did, and have a better understanding of who I am as a person just by writing a single essay. I was not expecting the amount of self–awareness that I gained through this class. I really enjoyed the hermit crab essays, because they really guided me to find my true feelings. It was hard for me to get started writing at first and then once I got started, it was almost impossible to stop. I love the feeling that I am in control of what I am writing and there are no restrictions and that I can be vulnerable in my writing. This class really helped me show the vulnerable side of who I am. I was sometimes moved to tears while I was writing because, I realized things about myself that I never thought to be true before. I would get so excited that I would read it to my boyfriend, family and friends. This class was in no way easy, but it was definitely worth it for many reasons. I learned how to become a better writer, I learned about myself as a person, and I constructed pieces of writing that I didn't know I was capable of. Some assignments became easier as time went on because I became a stronger writer. However, I think the hardest one for me was having to write about the room I was in. It didn't interest me because it didn't help me dig deeper into my feelings or anything of that matter. I also didn't enjoy having to respond to different pieces of writing, because it

All I wanted when I was little was to have beautiful long hair. All of my dolls had hair down to their waist , and I longed to have hair like them. Unfortunately for me, my hair did not grow very fast... at all. I was practically bald until I was three; and my hair was only about to my chin when I was ready to start kindergarten. So there I was, on my first day at Foreign Language Academy. I was in Señora Vargas's Kindergarten class holding on to my mom, dreading the moment she would have to leave. I had been really excited about starting school and getting to wear my navy blue dress and my hellokitty backpack. Actually being in the classroom, however, incredibly nerve racking. Most of the parents were mingling and asking questions to the teacher, while the kids tried to find their place. Some kids had already began to play games with one another. Others, like me, were more shy, still clinging to their parent. In all the commotion, I noticed a girl who had the longest hair in the entire class of kindergartners. She looked a lot like me except she had freckles, a pink cast on her arm, and the hair I had ever seen. Her hair was the same color as mine, but about triple the length, and with more curl in it. Jealousy immediately swept over me. It seemed like this girl had everything I had ever wished for in my entire life. I also thought casts were really cool at that time because I did not really understand that broken bones hurt, or that you couldn't really move

How Do I See Myself?
Personal Profile How do I see myself? In the business world, interaction is necessary especially if I want to be an effective employee. By learning about myself, understanding my needs, and knowing how other people see me, I am able to recognize my skills and abilities, which leads to best determining what jobs fits me the most and how to work effectively and efficiently. After completing all the assessments in "Self–Assessment Library" by Stephen P. Robbins, I find myself to be a sociable person on both the advancement and receiving end. I love interacting with people and listening to them. Moreover, I like it when people give me feedback over what I have done as opposed to asking for opinions over ideas. I work well in teams since I am a free spirit who indulges with anyone. Compared to other people from my country, Saudi Arabia, my English language skills are very good and are quite an asset when it comes to the research writing. Since childhood, creation was an aspect of awe to me, the ability to picture ways of improvement and sustenance were always an intriguing factor to me. I lead through experience and actual practice. I am not actually a follower but I prefer a very interactive team that is full of practical ideas since I usually take initiative to follow through. I am good at organizing things since people's reaction always matter to me and I always want to impress them. I work towards that through the engagement of personal trials and errors; thus, I get a
Standing Up For What It Means To Be Yourself
"Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define it yourself."– Robert Frost. I believe that being different and unique lets a person be themselves and lead a happy more fulfilled life. If you truly enjoy something, follow that passion if someone tells you it is lame.
Individuals that follow beliefs or desires go on to making world changing movements. For instance, same sex marriage in some parts of the country are illegal due to discrimination and religion. Many people in the world are bisexual and would love to marry their loved one. In my opinion, standing up for what you believe in is very important in this world because if you do not like something you should say something...show more content...
There is many cases in the world where people decide to stay quiet or pretend like something did not happen just because they do not want to be part of the process. Most of the time when people stay quiet it affects everybody else. Let's say that there were to be a undecided decision on whether the teacher should buy her students pizza or chips. And, every student voted for pizza, but about half of the class wanted chips instead. That can affect what the teacher buys the students because what if not everyone wanted the same thing that is why everyone should stand up for what they want and not stay quiet. My parents are always voting when our city has to vote for a new mayor or our district attorneys, and I always ask them why they vote every time. They tell me they vote because they believe that one vote can make a difference. They do not want someone that is not that good of a person to be in charge of the city or town. Everyone has the right to stand up for what they believe in, and more people should start to realize that. This world would be a better place and there would not be many fights between
Essay About Myself
There are three very important aspects that play a major rule in my life. They can be categorized as intellectual, social, and spiritual. My intellectual self is interesting because I am mainly right–brained which means that I tend to use my creativity more than my mathematical skills, also making me a visual learner. My social self consists of friends, family, and my surroundings. I spend most of my time at home with my family. Whenever I am with my friends, I observe their behaviors and listen to their opinions. I am more of an independent type of person. Being with different people has influenced me into appreciating different cultures and beliefs. I find that I can only recall long–term memories if they are important to me, or if they are dramatic experiences. A few examples of my childhood memories are my mother reading to me, my grandfather playing his guitar, and my dad relentlessly teaching me how to ice skate, no matter how many times I fell. The people who affect my social life the most are my family and friends. I have an extremely close family that has played a major role in my life. They are whom I spend most of my spare time with. My family usually gathers every weekend for dinner. I am also very open to different religions, cultures, and practices because I know many people with different backgrounds and beliefs. Since I've been influenced by various people, I've learned at a very young age to never judge people by how they look, dress, feel, or act. I am very fortunate to have learned these lessons, because many people still do not understand the importance of accepting differences. In a group, I prefer to listen to what others have to say, and then contribute to the discussion. I try to listen so I am able to compare them to my own thoughts. I enjoy working in a group, because it gives everyone an opportunity to incorporate their own ideas. My social self is most greatly influenced by my family and friends. I believe that my spiritual self is the most important out of the three. Although I have a certain religion that I belong to and practice, I believe in a bit of
The Best Possible Version Of Myself Essay
I 'm not perfect, but I 'm becoming the best possible version of myself. At first I was very ashamed of myself, for multiple reasons, but mainly because I haven't graduated college, that I had fallen behind my peers. However, I have nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone's path is different. I was a "know it all," I thought I had everything figured out, but I was wrong. Failure was something I had never experienced until I was completely on my own. Honestly, when I got to college I wanted to be a teacher, then I realized the world was a fucked–up place and I needed to do more. I switched my major to political science. I was happy with the switch, but then I notice something was wrong with me, it wasn't just the world. I always felt different, the way I process emotions and interact with people was a little abnormal. This became more apparent when I entered college.
In 2014, I was officially diagnosed with Bi–polar Disorder. I thought "you know what I have this mental illness, I can't live life. I was scared and confused. I pushed my boyfriend, friends, and mother away. The only thing I had left were my negative thoughts and countless bottles of alcohol that made going to sleep a little easier. There was a point of time where I was so overwhelmed with anxiety that I feared leaving my bedroom. I wanted to take my life and tried several times. The saddest part of it all was I never really wanted to kill myself, I just thought it was my only opposition to escape the pain. I

I have a little brother, which makes me a sister; I have two loving parents, which makes me a daughter; I am in college studying medicine, which makes me a student; and I have wonderful friends in desperate need of support, which makes me a wonderful best friend. It is seen as an essential part of learning and using what you learn in class. But when you get loads of class work and have very little time to finish it, then it becomes an unnecessary burden. Yet, sometimes, for me, it is the fact that I procrastinate that prevents me from completing a task. For college student, like myself who is working to pay for college, large amounts of class work usually brings lots of stress and fear of not being able to get good grades in many of my classes. Yet, I have support from my family, friends, and some peers who encourage me to put up a good fight in reaching my goal. I am a student that has gone through so much to get here, where I am. There were times that I had strong feelings that I would never be in college, just because of the negative energy I forced upon myself. Since pre–K, I have had this problem that if I can't do something I just give up, and stop trying. I still have this problem, but I have learned to get a control on it. The biggest problem was graduating from high school. I never thought that I would ever graduate. But I knew, as a student, I should at least try and show my teachers that I am putting effort. And now, I'm in college, studying pre–med, and hoping to become either a pediatrician, or a NFL Doctor. Growing up as a daughter to a single mom, was, I think, the best experience ever. I was, and am still, very spoiled. I always had everything that I ever wanted. And
Why I Don 't Be Too Hard On Yourself
A Few Wise Words from Well–Known Writers #1
At times writing can be a very stressful job. As if coming up with ideas isn't enough, you must also find a creative way to turn these ideas into sentences. In most cases, the inspiration just isn't there and you begin to question your choice of career. Don't be too hard on yourself; plenty of writers have experienced similar thoughts. It's all a part of the growth process. Many writers have run into brick walls but have found some creative ways to get over them, under them, or tear them down completely. Having such a creative mind, is one of the major benefits of being a writer. There's always something stirring inside our brains. One day it's the answer to a worldly issue, another day it's just a bunch of words struggling to come together. Fortunately, the writers who have found their way to the other side of these imaginary walls have left clues as to how the rest of us can get there. Here are a few wise words from well–known writers.
To live a creative life we must first lose the fear of being wrong
–Joseph Chilton Pearce
Being a writer often means delving into the pits of your heart, soul and mind. Sure, there's the concept of proper grammar and sentence structure, but before this comes the actual story line. As a writer you may cater to an audience, and that is perfectly fine. It's great to have a group of supporters willing to view and discuss your ideas. However, let's not forget that your story is about you. When
The Best Possible Version Of Myself Essay
What if a source of stress is also a source of happiness? Identifying what causes stress is a critical step in alleviating resulting anxiety, but addressing the problem can prove tremendously difficult if consequential changes to your lifestyle will hinder your sense of fulfillment. The source in my life that makes stress and happiness not mutually exclusive is my goal to be the "best possible version of myself." I know – it seems like I adopted a hackneyed phrase straight from a self–improvement book as my motivation in life. However, I attribute the development of this desire to simultaneous assimilation and discord with my hometown's culture.
The "best possible version of myself" consists of two aspects: succeeding in my own pursuits and being a reliable, effective source of support for others. Stress arises from pressuring myself to be continuously successful in both aspects. I rigidly structure my everyday life, seeking to fulfill the web of aspirations and morals that construct the "best possible version of myself." Structure causes additional stress but also bridges anxiety and happiness. Happiness arises from continuous fulfillment of these aspirations and morals. Several different events led to the development of the aspirations, through assimilation with my hometown's culture, and the morals, through discord with my hometown's culture, that guide my structured life.
Music performance started as only an interest, independent from my meticulously structured life. I
Personal Narrative: Just Be Yourself
The right of passage that is most significant to me is Just Be Yourself. Just Be Yourself is the most significant to me because I relate to it the most. In middle school you sometimes don't feel very comfortable being yourself around others. You're scared you'll get judged and people won't like you for you. That's why Just Be Yourself is such an important passage because it states that you'll eventually find your way and to just be yourself.
I can pretty much vouch for everyone in middle school, including myself, and say that we are all trying to find our way. We join various activities, make new friends, and try sports, but in the end we still don't really know who we are. As we grow and learn, our interests change, and soon we find ourselves in activities we used to hate, and hanging out with people we never used to associate with. Like when I was in the 7th grade, I never used to like basketball, but when I made the team I found out that I actually enjoy basketball. And I learned I was a good sprinter. I think that we just spend so much time worrying about finding ourselves, that we forget who we really are. Like on page 48, "By spending so much time trying to find yourself, you're slowly losing yourself."...show more content...
We all want to fit in. I always want to fit in. I worry so much what others think of me, that I often find myself trying to change myself to other people's needs and wishes. People always think popularity is everything, but I learned it's better to keep a smaller friend group with the people who actually care for you. People may assume fitting in is good, but in reality it is better to stand out, be different, be YOURSELF. Like the quote on page 48, "You have some friends in the cafeteria that you could sit with, but you don't really feel like you fit in, do
Essay About Myself as a Writer
I don't consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something that I need to say that I can't just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of what I have done that day. It's not so much about my feelings. I don't really like talking about my feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt.

When I started my high school, I found my current best friend, Marie. We are still friends to this day; she just left for college at George Mason. So once again I'm not with my best friend.
I'm not trying to make my life all depressing because it hasn't been all bad. And I realize that people have had things a lot worse happen to them, in their lives, and I should be thankful for what I have. But no matter what I have I just never seem truly happy. I always have this front up, and it seems like everything is going great, but deep inside, I'm falling apart. This comes out in my writing, and I think that writing is a good release from all of this. I always try to do my best when it comes to my class work and my writing, but I know that my writing isn't the best by any means. I always find it important to the best job that I can do, on school work and also in life.
I think that a lot of what got me through writing papers in middle and high school was my mom. She was so great about reading over and correcting my papers. She stayed up many nights doing that for me. Not because she had to, but because she wanted to help me. There were so many other things she could have been doing, but instead she was helping me, and that means a lot to me. I'm kind of nervous about doing this all on my own. I'm excited thought o see what I can do on my own. I am so excited about starting new here, with a clean slate. I think that

Every person should be as much of an individual as they can be. Mankind should be who they are on the inside and try to prevent themselves from being someone else. This action results in sin. You should be your own person, be who you were meant to be, and strive to be as different from everyone else as much as you can. This can be seen when Emerson states that, "Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life's cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another you have only an extemporaneous half possession" (160). This infers that all of your individual thoughts are full ideas, while only half of another's ideas are in your possession. Your own gifts and abilities are worth more than another's if you are to maintain your individuality. If you adopt any ideas from someone, that person will have kept their individuality while you have lost some of yours. Your mind is your own and no one can touch it except for you. You can think what you want to think and no one can change that. Each and every person has their own life to live and they shouldn't devote their valuable time to worrying about other people. The search for self–reliance comes from loving something for its intrinsic qualities and this is more often than not, our own individuality. The conclusions that one draws from an individual's actions or beliefs can all be different, but the facts or constants used to understand these feelings should be the same from one
Author Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." I find this quote to be extremely accurate. While I am sure that many would argue that there is an abundance of other great things one can do with their life I would certainly have to disagree. In my opinion being yourself is ones greatest accomplishment because not being yourself can lead to unhappiness and anxiety, It gives other people a better understanding of who you are, and it makes it easier to make friends with people you will actually enjoy being around. Firstly, as someone who has personally struggled with self–acceptance I can vouch that it did, in fact, deplete my happiness. While researching...show more content...
Constantly pretending and acting can be tiring and when you falter it makes it difficult for those around you to understand you and your motives. Pretending to be someone you're not can hinder you not only socially but even in a business setting. A faltering act can make you seem untrustworthy. Therefore, being yourself really is the best option if you want to be successful. Having at least one good friend is beneficial, if not a necessity, to basic human happiness. Though, it can be hard to make genuinely good friends when you are pretending to be someone you're not. I believe to find true friends and true happiness it is important to show people the real you so you can find people who are like you and enjoy the same things. In conclusion, being yourself is ones greatest accomplishment because not being yourself can lead to unhappiness and anxiety, It gives other people a better understanding of who you are, and it makes it easier to make friends with people you will actually enjoy being around. Perhaps when Emerson said, "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." He was giving himself advice. We all struggle with being our true self but our true self is most definitely our best

She had courage and pride. Parks was known for being the first brave black person to break the segregation laws. Staying true to yourself no matter what society has to offer nor good or bad. It can help me learn so much about myself and the society we live in today. My authentic life would be overcoming anything without letting society tell me what I can't do and what I can do. Also the pressure to not give in even if society was cruel. If anything I would try to push myself even more and live life with freedom. The only obstacles that would get in my way would be giving up. Giving up is not one of the option, Rosa Parks standing up for herself even when she knew she had to faced the consequences. Her action gives the meaning of why I should stay true to myself. The next thing that would get in my way would be letting society tell me what to do. Also not letting me have the freedom I deserve. Rosa parks'

Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I can remember in high school, it seemed like I was always one of the last students finished with a test.

I have discovered some interesting things I have noticed in myself before taking this course. For example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.
With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or not clearly understand it the first time read, I have the option of reading it over. I do not always trust myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes help me remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after writing them down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them would get anything out of it, but at least I know what they mean.
I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like to keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I am comfortable with my learning style, accepted it as my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this far, it must work out for me.
I have identified my personality style as being extroverted, one who becomes easily energized by others, and outwardly expressing thoughts as long as I am fully understanding context and material being discussed. If I have no idea what is being addressed, I am better of keeping quiet to save myself from
