Abortion Research Paper
Abstract
The topic covered in this research paper is abortion. This paper looks into the history of abortion, the pro–life view of abortion and the pro–choice view of abortion. Under history of abortion the information included is the time line of significant events of abortion such as becoming legal, also different ways in ancient times women would try to use abortions. The upgrading of technology making abortion safer and even if abortion was illegal women would still find a way to abort a baby are also covered under the history of abortion. Under pro–life choice for abortion looks into abortion murder, the rights of human and the rights of the unborn and that a women doesn't have a right to terminate her own fetus. Under pro– choice...show more content...
Pro–choice is for female activists and their beliefs on women taking control of their own body and making their own decisions. The other side of the debate in abortion is pro–life, which is defined as murder, killing an innocent baby which has no say. It has been reported that anti–abortionists relate having an abortion to murdering someone. They believe that a murder is intentional and so is an abortion because you are planning to abort the baby (Currie, 2000,103). Results have shown that people who advocate for Pro–Life primarily are Christian or Catholic members because of the Bible. In the Bible, it does not say directly that abortion is not permitted it makes references to make it clear that God felt very strong about the fact that a fetus or embryo is still considered a human. It suggests that God creates the baby's life well its in the womb and it also says that the same penalty should be giving to someone who causes the death of the child in the womb as to someone who commits murder (Frechet, 2009). As you can see there is two very strong definitive sides to the debate of abortion, both having strong arguments.
History
Abortion has been known since the ancient times. Women in all cultures have used it as a method of birth control, regardless of whether the culture officially permitted it. Over many centuries women wishing to terminate a pregnancy have drunken poisonous liquids, rubbed certain herbs on their stomachs, or even attempted to pierce

I have chosen for my topic Abortion. I think that it is a topic that is very important in today's society however it is often dodged or avoided.
Different Presidents say different things and have different stances about it, and often it is had to know what to think about it. Basically there are two different ways of looking at it: Pro–Choice, which takes the stance of saying that it is the woman's choice if she wants to have an abortion and that it is only her business. So basically they want it to remain legal. Then there is the other stance of Pro–Life which says that it should not remain legal and that it is just about as bad as cold–blooded murder. I happen to agree with this.

Several cases have been fought for the right to choose. Many of these have been hard cases but they stuck with it, and many people believe that that is why we have some of the rights we do today. Here are some important cases:
1. 1965 – Griswold vs. Connecticut. Upheld the right to privacy and ended the ban on birth control. Eight years later, the Supreme Court ruled the right to privacy included abortions.
2. 1973 – Roe vs. Wade. The state of Texas had outlawed abortions. The
Supreme Court declared the law unconstitutional, bur refused to order an injunction against the state. On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court voted the right to privacy included abortions.
3. 1976 – Planned Parenthood vs. Danforth. Ruled that requiring consent by the husband and the consent from a parent if a person was under 18 was unconstitutional. This case supported a woman's control over her own body and reproductive system.
To conclude about Pro–Choice I will state what Dana Pentoney has said:
Abortion deals with one's private life and should have nothing to do with the government. However, abortion should not be used as a means of birth control, but if a fetus will be unwanted, it is better to be aborted than to be abused or neglected. Now onto Pro–Life. This is what
Banning Abortion Essay
Banning Abortion
For many years now people have debated over abortion. Legally a woman can have an abortion when she is up to 24weeks pregnant except if the mothers' life is in danger. Some people see this as killing innocent babies but others see it as a rescue for teenage mothers' etc.
Abortion was only legalized in 1861but was only carried out if the mothers life was at risk. However this changed with the introduction of the Abortion Act (1967) by the Liberal MP David Steel. This allowed a woman to have an abortion if there was a risk or injury to her or her existing children's physical or mental health but the mother must have the permission of two doctors. In 1990 the law was changed again:...show more content...
This is similar to the suction procedure except that the abortionist inserts a curette, a loop–shaped steel knife up into the uterus. He then cuts the placenta and baby into pieces and scrapes them out into a basin. Bleeding is usually profuse. D & X (Partial Birth)
Also used for advanced pregnancies. The cervix is dilated to allow passage of a ring forceps. A foot or lower leg is located and pulled into the vagina. The baby is extracted in breech fashion until the head is just inside the cervix. The baby's legs hang outside the woman's body. With the baby facedown, scissors are plunged into the baby's head at the nape of the neck and spread open to enlarge the wound. A suction tip is inserted and the baby's brain is removed. The skull collapses and the baby is delivered. Sharp and suction curettage is continued until the walls of the womb are clean.
These methods may seem cruel but a baby can have distasterous affects on the mothers' lives. If abortions were made illegal the number of teenage or unmarried pregnacys' would rise dramatically. Also, victims of rape or incest may not want to have the baby, as it would remind them of their terrible experiences. A lot of teenagers would be unable to cope with a baby; a lot of teenagers are getting pregnant at the age of 13/14. To have to bring up a baby could take away any chance of a career and the baby
Abortion Essay example
Abortion is defined as the termination of a pregnancy before the fetus is capable of independent life. Abortions must be conducted before the end of six months or the fetus will leave the womb and it would be considered premature birth. If the fetus weighs less than 18 ounces or is less than 20 weeks into pregnancy, it is usually considered an abortion. There are two types of abortions. One is spontaneous and the other is induced. Spontaneous abortions are known y another name, miscarriages.
The second form of abortion is an induced abortion. This is the deliberate termination of the fetus. Many have pondered upon the meaning of abortion. The argument because every child born should be wanted, and others who believe that every child...show more content...
Abortion is not only a woman's right, it is a woman's choice. Allowing abortion to e legal is immoral. A pre–born child is given the status of a product of pregnancy and never seen as the miracle only a woman can create. Compassion for the small one is drowned out under a demand for rights, but what about the rights for the unborn.
A woman has a right to her own body is an idea more and more women are realizing, but that idea ignores the unborn child's right to his or her own body. Never, in modern times, has the state granted to one citizen the right to have another killed in order to solve their personal, social, or economic problems. The embryo is its own being that should have it's own rights to protect it. The zygote is a unique genetic being.
If one were to abort an embryo then that embryo, that human life would never be duplicated again. For example, a scientist that may have found the cure to A.I.D.S would be killed. There is a better way to solve our problems than by killing children. A fertilized egg is the most beautiful, most innocent being that we could ever create and can redeem even our worst mistakes. This fertilized egg is not just a mass of tissue, for if it were there would be no debate. It is immoral to kill; therefore, abortion is immoral.Abortion should be banned because life begins at conception.
The individual sex cell consists of 23 chromosomes.
Abortion Outline
Definition of an Abortion
An abortion is the medical process of ending a pregnancy so it does not result in the birth of a baby. It is also sometimes known as a 'termination' or a 'termination of pregnancy'. Depending on how many weeks you have been pregnant, the pregnancy is ended either by taking medication or by having a surgical procedure.
An abortion is not the same as a miscarriage, which is where the pregnancy is lost or ends naturally. The loss starts without medical intervention, although medical or surgical treatment may be needed after a miscarriage has started to help empty the womb. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Abortion/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Methods of pregnancy termination include:
The use of the abortion pill which is the use of a combination of the medicines mifepristone and misoprostol.
Surgical abortion
Use of the Abortion Pill
Mifepristone and misoprostol are synthetic steroids medication which are used to terminate a pregnancy while it is still in the early stages(70 days or less since a females last menstrual cycle).Using the medication after the time period increases the likelihood of complications arising. The use of the combination of the medications blocks the activity of the hormone progesterone, a hormone necessary for the continuation of a pregnancy. The lack of progesterone causes the lining of the uterus to break down and contracts the womb. The use of the pills is 90% successful in deliberately terminating pregnancies.
The side effects often accompanied by the use of the abortion pill are:
Headaches
Nausea vomiting and dizziness
Pain and cramping
Vaginal bleeding

Abortion
Abortion has been an issue since 1820. In the beginning the problem was more about protecting doctors who have licenses. "Regular doctors thus had an incentive to ban abortion as part of an effort to drive irregular doctors many of whom were women out of business" (Straggenborg, p.211). The AMA (American Medical Association), which was the group that the regular doctors made, started a campaign that made the people believe that the white population was getting smaller and the population of the immigrants was rising. Abortions were made illegal to insure the stability of the population of American citizens. It seems odd that the only reason that abortions were made illegal at one point was because of money issues and a lust...show more content...
As well if it were to be illegal, looking at the past history we can almost be sure that women would still go out and have abortions. Though, these abotions would not be safe and would most probably be costly. If abortions were legal then the question at hand is then who has the "personhood" rights, or atleast who has more rights. Does the unborn child, if you consider it a child at not even 3 months, have more rights than the woman carrying the baby? Does the father have a decision if this child should be born or not? When looking into this matter one must first extinguish at what point is it a baby with his or her own rights. Does he or she from the moment of conceptionhave rights when he or she is merely in the stage of splitting into different cells? These are all important issues, that lead into one big question of whether or not the women should be allowed to have an abortion even at any cost. No matter what stage in the pregnancy . . . no matter what the reason behind her decision . . . is it essentially the women's full choice?
These issues are discussed among many different groups of people. There are a vast number of pro–choice organizations out there that speak on behalf of the women involved in abortions. They speak on behalf of the rights of the women who chooses to carry the child, or who chooses to give it up for adoption, or who raise it themselves. Especially children, it seems to be a fact that, "Each year, one million
Definition of Abortion Essay
Abortion (noun):
a. Termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival.
b. Any of various procedures that result in such termination and expulsion. Also called induced abortion.
As stated above, abortion is the termination of a fetus. In other words, the fetus dies, whether by the mother's choice or by accident (such as a miscarriage or stillbirth.) Medically, all terminations of pregnancy not resulting in a live birth are defined as abortions. Each year throughout the world, 45million abortions are performed. Compare this to 128.6 million births per year and you get approximately 35% of fetuses each year that never get a chance to live. When discussing abortion, one aspect to...show more content...
This is because the fathers want a male heir to carry on the family name and be the man of the house instead of a daughter who is thought to be weak and worthless. The two main types of induced abortions are chemical and surgical. With the chemical abortions, a woman can choose to take the "Morning–After Pill" the morning following rape, incest or sexual intercourse. This prevents the zygote from attaching to the wall inside of the uterus. The other form of chemical abortion can be done later on in the pregnancy. In this one, the doctor can administer the chemical RU–486. Some of these abortions (approximately 8%) need a surgical follow–up, usually by vacuum aspiration. There are a few types of surgical abortions but the most common forms are Manual Vacuum Aspiration abortion, which consists of removing the fetus or embryo by suction using a manual syringe. The Electric Vacuum Aspiration abortion method uses suction that is produced by an electric pump to remove the fetus or embryo. Neither of these procedures sounds enjoyable. Abortion should be illegal in the state of Michigan because it violates the right to life for that unborn child, there are too many risks associated with abortions, and because every child is a wanted child. Everyone, in Michigan and throughout the United States of American, has the right to life. It is included in our three unalienable rights (Right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.) Even though
