Frankenstein And Never Let Me Go Comparison Essay
Compare the ways in which the writers of your two chosen texts portray the impact of science on social order.
The numerous aspects of science presented in both, Frankenstein and Never Let Me Go can be said to have immense impact in relation to the societies presented in the two novels, as well as the way in which they influence the concept of social order within those societies. To an extent, the degree of science's impact on society can be said to be more prominent and influential in one novel, more than the other as their chain of events despite all being drastically affected by the ideas brought about through science – such as the concept of artificially made life, can be said to have more impact of the concept of social order within...show more content...
The science which leads to the initialisation of the idea of creating organ donors which will contribute to the later life of those who stand higher in the society's capitalistic structure can be said to have impacted the overall concept of a social order through the obstruction of proceeding in what is morally right as a result of deeming cloning perfectly acceptable. However, another way to interpret Ishiguro's ideologies behind social order in Never Let Me Go can be through the lack of surprise at the ways in which Kathy's society is run. The fact that science was powerful enough to normalise the concept of organ donation in a manner which is disadvantageous for the donors in regards to a chance at a normal life comes alongside the fact that there is very little desire to rebel on behalf of the donors. Through this, it can be deduced that science and its influence can completely overpower the idea of self righteousness and own will, enforcing conformity to the values put upon by a corrupt society, ultimately ensuing social

George Orwell 1984 Comparative Essay
Throughout literature, authors have incorporated specific traits into a character's world to express their views on political topics. From Huxley's Brave New World to Orwell's Animal Farm, the characters in each are heavily exaggerated to voice the author's opinion of the current times. One of the most glaring examples of this political representation is George Orwell's 1984. About a young man, Winston Smith, and his interactions with the Thought Police, the Resistance, and Julia–his forbidden love––– in a utopian society, Orwell represents the fears of many citizens in the 1940s: the rise of a totalitarian superpower. George Orwell, the author of 1984, wrote this novel at this time for a specific reason, incorporated characters that...show more content...
In 1984, Big Brother is a mysterious leader, all–knowing and all–seeing, of the utopian society. He is meant to be revered as god by the citizens. Throughout the novel, we are unsure if Big Brother really exists. Only his image is used by the Thought Police to intimidate the citizens of Oceania. Big Brother represents the ultimate version of a dictator, and the character is "inspired by Adolf Hitler, Francisco Franco, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Tse–tung, all of whom were worshipped by many of their followers," ("1984"). Emmanuel Goldstein is the great enemy of Big Brother. Characterized as a old, Jewish man, Goldstein, a former Party leader, is now the head of a conspiracy to overthrow the Party. Goldstein is based on Leon Trotsky, an enemy of Joseph Stalin who led an unsuccessful revolt and was murdered by Stalin's men ("1984"). Finally, the main character, Winston Smith, is undoubtedly based on Winston Churchill, the great leader of Britain during World War II. Winston Smith's determination as he makes decisions throughout the novel resonates strongly with Churchill's

The Olympics is one of the oldest and most prestigious sporting events in the world. The 2012 Olympics and Paralympics held in London, UK, were extensively covered by the BBC and Channel 4. Leading up to these events, the BBC and channel 4 ran several advertisements promoting this coverage. BBC titled one as, "London 2012 Olympic Games", while the Paralympics one was titled "MEET THE SUPERHUMANS". These advertisements are great examples of innovative marketing, and it also shows the evolution of advertisement to the ever changing technological age, with new platforms such as social media. These techniques include the use of patriotic imagery, symbolism, famous landmarks, and the use of powerful and effective language.

Eating is essential part of our lives, and it is a necessity for human survival as it is for all other living species. While all living organisms need to eat to survive human race has more ways on how to satisfy their eating necessity. Two ways that humans can satisfy their hunger is by making a choice whether they prefer to eat out or stay at home and cook. Eating out has become popular trend in today's society, especially among younger generations. With wide variety in delicious food offered, and chance to enjoy it with your loved ones, eating out has become primary choice for many busy adults. Eating at home gives us an opportunity to enjoy diverse food choices as well, and it can be also enjoyed with family and friends alike. You could be asked to write about the presentation of themes, people or places and the importance of language.

BREAD – Your conclusion about this point.
This is what the examiners call cross–referencing – you talk about both poems all the way through your answer.

What is the Examiner looking for in an A* response to the Poetry?
An A* response is characterised by a conceptualised, insightful and imaginative approach to the texts that combines an analytical and exploratory use of detail in each poem individually with evaluative comparison across both poems discussed in the answer.
Essentially, an A* response will set itself apart from the hundreds of other responses because it has an individual and unique approach that shows the writer has developed their own individual ideas about the texts. This approach is characterised by a confident engagement with the themes, ideas, relationships and technical construction of the poems. Equally, the writer of an A* response will show comparative skill; making links and cross referencing the poems using telling detail to form the basis of insightful comparisons between the poems.
At first this may appear daunting but with a ruthless and systematic approach it can be achieved. Essentially, the key to performing at this level is having your own ideas; if you can form your own opinions about each of the poems then you will be able to write this kind of essay. The real skill here is to marry the ideas that you have with a written style that allows you to showcase them in the examination.
You might begin and end your response with some theoretical discussion of the concept in the title question. In the case of this question, the concept is death, therefore you might begin your essay

Comparing Cultures
When comparing cultures, one must form a definition of what culture is. Culture can be easily defined as the social behavior and normality's found in human societies. It can also be easily made up of a composed arrangement of educated conduct and thought designs. Culture is a sorted out framework since it includes many parts. Throughout the world, there are many cultures that are both very different and also very similar. "Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at table, how we greet visitors, how we behave and one million other things." In people, culture must be learned through experiences. For most countries, learned behaviors are passed down from one generation to the next. The purpose behind this is on the grounds that culture isn 't natural like in creatures because they are not conceived with it. People will begin to get their way of life during childbirth and it takes numerous years to take in the way of life like how to talk the dialect and comply with the rules that everyone must follow, that is the reason it is said we should respect their elders.
The two countries that we are going to compare are India and China. The greatest contrast among Indian China is the level of development in both nations. Advancement can be seeing more in India than in China and the struck me the most. There could be many variables causing this distinction. To begin with, let 's examine the differences in the government of meat country. Since the meaning of time, the Chinese government is continuing to do things their way heavily influencing what happens in the country. They have inumerous laws that directly or indirectly cause a standstill with innovation. 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' and 'The Red Convertible' 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' by Ambrose Bierce and 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Erdrich both recount sorrowful tales of men during times of war. The stories differ in that 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is a story written in reverse, where the readers do not truly know the plot until the end– whereas 'The Red Convertible' is just a man recounting the story of his long lost brother. However despite their differences, both of the stories continue to build up hope in the reader only to find nothing but a sorrowful story at the end.

The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what he had seen overseas.
Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior, illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. But he was such a loner now that I didn't know how to take it."
When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright colored clothes he used to dawn–– instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The quote from the middle of the story, speaking about the television, and how Henry just sat "in front of it, watching it, and that was the only time he

Short Story And Song Comparison Essay
The story and the song used in this comparison are "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. Both of them deal with hope and strong urge of motivation. However, they deal with it in a distinctive yet a very similar way. This essay will convey the main settings, plots, and themes differences between the two pieces.
One of the major differences in the two pieces is the setting and the effect of this difference. In the story, and according to Santiago's relationship with nature, "the old man and the sea" the events are happening in the rural area beside a sea "The old man lives in a shack made of bud–shields of royal palm..." (Pg. 15) this describes the fisherman's house and limiting the theme. Meanwhile, the song "Stronger" is in a more general and open setting in which it sends a theme that could be applied to all life–sort–obstacles. This difference in settings is essential since it affects the theme either making it too general, or too specific, even though the sea is used as a symbol representing "life".
The plots of the story and the song are completely distinctive. The story is about an old, lonely, and humble fisherman who is having hard times fishing in the sea. Purposely,...show more content...
If you overcome them, then basically, you become stronger. For instance, in "Stronger" Kelly demonstrates a few examples of obstacles from life, that are relatable "Doesn't mean I'm over cause you're gone" (line 16) and tells us that they are experiences in which we learn and get wiser from. This is similar to the story "the old man and the sea" in which the fisherman is motivating him every day to try harder and continue hoping. Basically, if the obstacles put you down, you've basically made no growth or progress. But if it doesn't kill you, you've grown

Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns that can alter a person's life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough, you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The All–American Rejects and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday sing about this message. The lyrics in their songs have many literary devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you...show more content...
The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song, the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song. These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers also used symbols and juxtaposition to
Literature has the unique capacity to influence readers with ideas and opinions and to educate those in a way that is distinctly unlike academic texts. The choice of words, plot structure and characterisation all separates a book from another. 1984 by George Orwell tells a story of citizens under a totalitarian rule, where personal opinions are discouraged and the freedom of speech is non–existent.
The novel, 1984 centres on a prominent character, Winston Smith, a party member in a dystopian London, named Oceania. Unlike his 'comrades', Smith abhors the Party and disagrees with the Party's beliefs. As the novel progresses and complications arise, Winston finds himself rebelling against the Party in small ways. However, it is the Party's wish to undermine individuality and constrict members in whichever way possible. This is evident through the Party members' range of attire, or lack of. Members must only wear the Party uniform, a pair of blue overalls. By issuing a set of uniform, the Party is able to suppress the identity of members and instead ensure that the bigger identity of the Party dominates and defines who they are. It visibly sets apart Party members from other groups in society, such as the Proles who are able to dress in whatever style they wish. As a member of the Outer Party, Winston receives 'only three thousand clothing coupons annually, and a suit of pyjamas [that costs] six hundred'. Not only is what they wear controlled, every Party member is subjected to listening to a telescreen that spews Party propaganda and warps minds with falsified statistics. This ingrains beliefs and opinions into every citizen of Oceania without any means to stop it, as the telescreen can only be
Comparing Two Advertisements Essay
Advertisements are produceed to help sell a product and to make it known. You can see advertisements in magazines, on television, in the newspaper, they come through the post and are on billboards.
In my essay I intend to find the differences and similarities between adverts for a men's fragrance and a fragrance aimed at women. The men's fragrance is not a new product it is a limited edition fragrance. The product aimed at the women is a completely new product. I chose these two products because i was interested in the different ways the same product would be advertised to men and women.
In the mens product "Lynx", there is a picture of the deodrant and shower gel in the bottom right–hand...show more content...

The bottle on the right is dark pink, small and round with a round lid, it has "still" writtin in bold on it with "jennifer lopez" in italic underneath.
The diamanté heart pendant has a shiny glitter in it to show wealth and high class this is trying to connote that if you wear the perfume you would be high class and important. The dark pink fading as it gets lower down the page is to make your eyes follow the fading colour to attract your attention to the perfume bottles. The black writting against light background is also used to atract your attention.
The "Lynx" fragrance advertisement has a comical side to it snd it is an informal asvert because of the two hills with trees on top to represent womens breasts. The type of words used in this advertisement are short and simple, with no soecific area of use. There is just one short sentance on the advert which is straight to the point "GET FRESH". There is no repition of words used and there is no rhyming either. The first two words of the advert used are bold because there are the most important words and it wants to get your attention.
I think the adverisers are relying more on the picture to sell this product rather than
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words...show more content...
In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because
Comparing Email Vs. Traditional Letters
When compared on format, time and cost it is proven that emailing is more efficient than traditional letters. In today's generation it is very rare for people to write traditional letters to each other. This generation is becoming known for its quick and a technology based world. Emailing is quick and simple and always at the tip of the fingers. Unlike emailing, traditional letters take time.
Emails are more commonly used than letters. This is because emails can be sent and received within minutes. It is a much faster form of communication than a letter. In addition to the speed, an email can be sent/received, emails can also be saved onto flash drives or directly on the computer. Furthermore, with the new technology out today, many...show more content...
If someone is to write a more formal email you would start off by addressing the person by their name and then get into the body of the email by replying to the purpose of the message. Most emails are sent just for a quick reply.
Often times businesses use emails to communicate to other businesses, especially when dealing with transactions. Having a record of when you talked to a person (email timestamps) is a definitive way to make sure people hold up to their end of the deal. Businesses may also use emails to share important documents with one another, you are able to attach a file and then you can share any document you need to.
Communication through email is also able to cut down people's eco footprint. Using the internet to share thoughts, documents, or have conversations cuts down the need for trees to be cut down. When using an email, the only thing you need is the person's email address. Emails are not as trustworthy as traditional letters however.
Traditional letters have a stronger trust behind them as most are hand delivered from door to door. Often times with the capability to have a tracking number. Also like email, Traditional letters have more of a formal format. Traditional letters usually start out with addressing the person in formal way such as "Dear ... ", "Greetings ... ", "Good Morning/Evening/Afternoon", and etc.
A handwritten letter is seen as a more personal form of communication mainly because the
In the poems 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' by Alfred Lord Tennyson and 'Exposure' by Wilfried Owen, both poets incorporate ideas of patriotism to convey a message about the futility of war. This is revealed in many similar and different ways:
One of the ways in which poets present the ideas of patriotism is in the loss of hope as the war progresses, which patriotism helps to could help overcome in one war, but not another. For example, the soldiers don't lose hope despite the mistake made by one of the commanders in 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' due to their patriotic views as seen through the words: 'Theirs but to do and die' ... 'Into the Valley of Death'. The words 'but to do and die' suggest that the soldiers were so patriotic...show more content...
Similarly, Owen uses the concept of the futility of war in 'Exposure' to highlight patriotism through the words 'merciless iced east winds that knive us'. The metaphor of the weather in 'winds that knive us' conveys the way in which the soldiers are facing another battle against another force in war, which is suggested to be their false beliefs of patriotism in the connotation 'What are we doing here?'. Owen uses the rhetorical question in 'here?' to demonstrate the ways in which the soldiers feel that they have been betrayed by their false perception of patriotism, which highlights the potential propaganda set out during the beginning of the First World War, highlighting the true futility of why they were fighting a battle against nothing, as the 'wind' is just a force which is air.
