I am very interested in attending Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life sciences and pursuing a major in Biology and Society. Pursuing this major allows me to incorporate a passion of mine, Biology, in the context of the sociocultural forces it is sure to be applied in. This is not only intellectually stimulating but also relevant to my upbringing. I am a Modern Orthodox Jew and have grown up in a community governed by strict cultural laws. While the preservation of life under Jewish law is regarded as the top priority, the application of necessary health care must be reconciled with values (for example modesty) that a strictly secular physician would not naturally consider. Attending a dual curriculum high–school has further deepened my understanding of the sensitivities and needs of my specific community. For the past four years, I have devoted half of my school day to of traditional general studies, and the other half, to discussing and reviewing the philosophy, ethics, and reasoning behind secular and Jewish Law. This, combined with the urge to get to the bottom of things, wether that be the basic chemical interactions and...show more content...
As a lifeguard at Camp Stone, a summer camp for Jewish children, I have been put in positions that demand quick and affirmative medical treatment, all the while remaining sensitive to the religious values my camper's parents have entrusted me to uphold. I starkly remember stabilizing the neck of an 11 year old girl's who fell on her head while attempting to dismount from her councilor's shoulders. While my actions matched perfectly the instructions of my Red Cross Certified training, I can recall saying a quick prayer in my head for her. Additionally, after a team of EMTs arrived and took over her care, I, somewhat shellshocked, joined the rest of the camp for a moment of prayer, admittedly needing some

The University of Pennsylvania is a world–class institution that will provide me with unparalleled top–notch educational experiences. Every aspect of Penn has impressed and convinced me that it's my dream school. The campus is beautiful and it's only a fifteen minutes drive away from my house. To me, the urban yet historical city of Philadelphia is still a mystery box that's waiting to be explored. The diversity and intense curriculum match the setting in which I wish to engrossed myself for the next four years. As of right now, I'm fascinated by a variety of majors including economics, mathematical economics, and psychology. I haven't decided which one I want to pursue but I know that the advisors at the College of Arts and Sciences will guide me to make the best decision. Unlike many school, The College's liberal arts foundation offers a variety of flexible academic disciplines bestowing upon me a chance to explore my miscellaneous interests. I could imagine myself being a part of the organization and enjoying lunch with faculty members and fellow enthusiasts while discussing contemporary issues in the field. I'm looking forward to reading the club's unique Perspectives in Psychology. I hope I will have the honor of having my own article published there one day. I've been completely intrigued by the study of psychology for years. I took the advanced class once during my sophomore year and I decided to take it again as an AP class during my senior year. I found the topics to be exceptionally captivating and I would like to continue that passion even as a minor or

My passion for mathematics was fixed at the age of ten, on the morning that my mathematics teacher told I would be sitting the Junior Maths Challenge, 'as practice for when you are older'. As I nervously started to answer the questions, a whole world began to open before me. I revelled in the problem solving, answering questions of a nature I had not seen before. My teachers were delighted when I emerged from the exam hungry for more. Since then I have consistently demonstrated my aptitude, achieving gold awards through to senior level, and scoring highly in the European Kangaroo.

I am a dedicated and conscientious student in class, and a key member in many extra–curricular activities. As a keen musician, playing violin, trombone and piano, I contribute to a number of musical ensembles in school and played an integral part in the organisation of our school's summer concert. I am also a member of several local youth orchestras and bands, with whom I have toured abroad many times, most recently to Italy, France and Belgium.
I have been a volunteer at my local Brownie unit for four years. Over this time I have taken on an increasingly important role in the organisation: working with the girls, the leadership team and the division executive team, running meetings, and latterly keeping the unit accounts. I am working towards my leadership warrant to become a Guider. I believe that the skills and experience that I have gained as a Brownie volunteer have benefited all areas of my life, including in my role as Deputy Head

The past four years in and outside of Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois have been highlighted with a multitude of flavorous events that created internal and external accomplishments within a life I am pleased to call my own. Each activity brought about a new chapter in my own self discovery and alluded to a mindset that aged me from childhood to adulthood. From first setting my blank canvas of a body in the uncharted ground of high school, I knew as a young pupil I was blossoming with potential to create something better for myself. I quickly took advantage of the fine arts courses such as guitar and chorus, believing the only possible outcome could be learning instruments for my own self gain. My blind remark was disproved quickly as being involved in the arts aided in meeting new people, creating a fearlessness in my own self expression, and realizing the importance of the music community to yours truly. Using music and it's community as a platform, I developed the skills that are necessary to be an adult. After becoming accustomed to the in–school involvement of fine arts activities, I wanted to push myself forward and participate in music outside of school. The exception to this would be the turnout of my bands DIY concert. Finally reaching my aspiration of being in an independent band and creating a concert to benefit society changed me as I discovered who I really am. Holding myself responsible for the past moments I created is something a child cannot do. It altered my mindset to transition into adulthood as I realized I wanted to take on more responsibility and become more educated. University will let me become the adult who is an advocate for using their platform to provide help to

In addition to my academic speaking and performing opportunities, I auditioned for a spot on the church Video Team as a third grader. After 'aging out' of the team, I was asked by the director to assist with helping the younger kids learn their scripts and assist with running the teleprompter. I still help when my schedule allows, as I have become involved in the junior high ministry where i am a member of the Leadership Team and the Meditation Team. At my fifth birthday party my mother had a Mad Scientist come to entertain the kids at my party. The mad scientist performed many fun experiments with dry ice, and my interest in science was born that day. Even though I was actually the only female in that summer class of 25 students it did not deter me from enrolling in science classes every summer since then.
Throughout my childhood, my interest in science also intertwined with my interest in the arts. The opportunities available to me at CYHS are more than any other school district I know, and in some ways outshine what even a college could offer its students. Choice is a driving factor at CYHS. Opening up the course selection guide can sometimes be almost intimidating because of all the choices I have as a student. My interests and passions supplement my education in high school in a variety of ways. All of these arts opportunities added to the excitement of coming to school, which naturally helped me succeed in my academic pursuits. Not only do I enjoy high school, but many weekend days have been spent waiting to go back to school so that I can sing again, or play my trumpet again, or just learn something really interesting. Everyday he would talk time out of his day to make pamphlets that listed grocery stores that sold food at a cheap price. He would then hand them out to low–income families hoping that these pamphlets would save them money. My grandfather felt content knowing that he was able to help these families. Furthermore, he taught me that the only way to become better at something is through practice. During the holidays, he and I would play our clarinets together in my living room for the rest of the family. He coaxed me to continue learning about and playing the clarinet. My grandfather inspired me to challenge myself in school like making the decision to take honors classes. Why I Want To Attend Boarding School
"How did I get here?" A question that finds its way to the front of my thoughts on almost nightly basis since I began high school at Phillips Academy. I ponder how my low–income, black, public school educated and sarcastic being was capable of manipulating its way through lengthy admissions forms, holistic selection committees, and wine up at one of the best high schools in the nation. How?
My braids sink into my pillow each night as this thought crosses my mind. This question is never from a place of regret for attending boarding school, but a consideration of all of the students who come from similar backgrounds as I do and why I was the one who "made it out." Why is it that I dissected my on shark in biology class while my friends at home shared the same seven year–old textbooks. How come I have opportunities to travel to different countries while my some of my peers have never left the state. What made me more deserving of the privileges I have received compared to me equally as...show more content...
Until I can figure out a way to spread information about private schools with extremely generosity to other high–achieving and low income students, I will stay awake each night. Until I aid in creating better boarding school outreach programs for underrepresented and/or low income students, I will stay awake each night. Until I discover how to transform the privilege of a first class education into a right for all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status or race, I will stay awake.
The injustices surrounding education and the access to opportunities I have been given prevent me from falling asleep with ease most nights. But not resting is nothing compared to the consequences of failing to provide thousands of children the high quality education they deserve. So, until the multifaceted question of "How did I get here?" is answered and properly addressed, I will not

My High School Career Essay
Through out my high school career I never took my education seriously. For most of the four years it was a big blur. I'm not quite sure if it was because of me or if I found myself blaming my surroundings or teachers for my lack of focus and strive to learn. A failure can mean different things to everyone else. Maybe there's just different types or categories of failures. These failures are meant to teach us something, or motivate us to simply not make these mistakes again.
I remember going into my freshman year of high school nervous but excited because I thought I'd learn so many new things. Next thing you know I found myself dreading school. Was I being lazy? Was it my lack of motivation? I still can't grasp why exactly I lost that excitement or that yearning to go to school. I was raised to have the idea that school was a place to learn not socialize. But at the age of 14, what teenagers don't want to socialize and that's what got a hold of me. I spent too much time worrying about other things that didn't involve my education.
Once I became a junior in high school I had been too far in the process of skipping school, not paying attention, and putting all my focus on other things. I'm not saying I didn't learn things while or whenever I did go to because I learned a lot of things but not enough. I didn't reach my full potential. I think this was the year I made friends who weren't as great of influence. So, at this point my lack of focus on my education was because of

I have been very involved in my high school, and have been lucky enough to be a part of multiple clubs and activities. Since I had a rough financial situation, I am an advocate for children in my community. I tutor many of the neighborhood children because I know all too well how difficult it was for me not having anyone available to help me with homework. Though I know there is a disadvantage between myself and my peers I do not make excuses nor am I jaded by this; instead, I work hard in school and I focus on my future. I will become successful someday; I just have to keep working hard and believing in my abilities.

Middle School Application Essay Sample
Since submitting my original application to Berkeley back in November, I organized and took a leading role in a project called the Brown Middle School Health Sciences Pilot Program, a project which has been considerably meaningful to me and my growth as an individual, learner, and leader. As mentioned previously in my original application, I was perplexed by the seemingly never ending complexity of human anatomy, and I developed a love for medicine at an early age. Unfortunately, no classes or programs were offered by my middle school that explored these topics. Although my desire to seek the health sciences was fulfilled in high school, an opportunity to explore medicine at an even earlier age would have garnered even further success and would help me progress through my secondary education at a more focused rate.
Now, as a senior in high school, I was given the opportunity to create a project to help my community in some way related to health sciences. I immediately formed a small team to organize a program to benefit my community educationally by giving middle schoolers the chance to explore medical careers and human anatomy, something I didn't have the chance to do myself at that age....show more content...
Our vision for these lessons was to give the middle schoolers a candid perspective on the medical field, letting them know not just the benefits of becoming a doctor, but also the trials and tribulations they must undego. Furthermore, we wanted them to explore anatomy and medical procedures hands–on, rather than through books or videos. They were to learn how to suture on meshes that accurately simulated real skin, perform CPR on mannequins that gave real time feedback, measure and chart vitals of their partners, and cut into and explore organ specimens that reflected the structure of their human
