Essay about How to Succeed as a Student
Life as a university student can be tough, but to make sure you get your money and times worth out of it you need to know how to be a successful student. Being a successful student requires a combination of attending your classes, doing your homework, and monitoring your level of stress. This may not sound too hard, but once you are in the moment and need to juggle all of these things along with all of the other responsibilities and challenges life entails it may begin to seem like a much more difficult task.
The first step to being a successful student in University, or anywhere else, is to attend as many of your classes as you can. Attending your classes is vital to your success in a university environment. Some teachers will use online...show more content...
Doing the assignments allows you to practice your understanding of that knowledge and will make things easier on the exams. Some classes don't have a final exam. In these cases the homework will likely be worth a much larger portion of your mark and the marks lost from ignoring it could cause you to fail the course. In some cases, the homework you can do is able to be used on open note tests or quizzes. Having many of the answers already inside of your notes can make a test trivial to do well on. Doing homework isn't always about the work itself. Of you are someone who has a busy life you may not feel like you have time for homework. Forcing yourself to make room to sit down somewhere quiet and do homework may give you some time to think. It will can give you a few hours away from the other stresses in your life. Doing well in school isn't all about showing up and doing the work. Your mood can be just as important to doing well in school. If you are overly stressed out by school and work you will end up focusing less on it and doing worse in it. Giving yourself a day off once or twice a month can give you some time to clear your head and go back into it feeling rejuvenated the next day. If your entire life consists of nothing but school and work you are probably not going to be a happy person. If you are not happy you will not as well at your school work. Having a hobby of
My Schedule During The Week Essay
Well, my schedule during the week is usually focused at school or at home. My weeks are never smooth and I usually have a lot of homework because I am taking 18 units. I specifically handle all my day to day things by the first study and do my homework before I go play a video game, sleep, or eat. My days feel very structured and I usually tried to prepare and do all my homework at least 1 week ahead. That way I have a bit more time to study for a test. Most of the time, I get a homework assignment out of nowhere, which always forces me to go with the flow. I organize my day to day by a to do list, a pile, and by section. I always eat breakfast during 8:00 A.M. to 9 A.M., I eat lunch at 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. and I would eat my dinner usually at...show more content...
Those classes are usually the longest time–consuming in my week because they are about 3 hours long. On the Saturday and Sunday, most of my time is to study for the exam or do homework because my class gives me a huge amount of homework. I usually play games for about 30 mins on randomly on my schedule or when I have a random free time. I sleep about 4 to 5 hours a day in the week, but on the weekend, I sleep about 7 to 9 hours.
There are three examples from the text that I plan to use in my future or now to help me combat my time management in the day to day task. First is to know how much time I am using for studying and increasing that time if needed. Second is to use a system to plan and set priorities. Lastly, it for me to stay motivated to follow my plan and avoid procrastination. The three strategies I would use in the textbook would do the most important study first, use a calendar planner and daily to–do list, and do the easier task first. I choose those three strategies for my time management because time is the key to be successful. The most important to study first would help me seek a question that I might not know; therefore, I could ask for assistance if I get stuck in my study. For me to use a calendar planner would help me schedule my time more efficiently. For me to use a daily to–do list will help me knock off what I need to accomplish by the end of my day. Doing the easier task first is important because it
How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise. Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at organization and careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers without any plans or organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the assignments, but throughout this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your thesis statement. Another skill I took from this class was to value my classmate's responses, from their reactions made me much more aware that my main ideas
Essay on Website Design
Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo, Google, and Twitter are all websites that people use every day, but how did they get there and how were they created? Website design is a process of assorting and linking codes and graphics into a text editor such as notepad and then displaying it onto a web browser. There is a large amount of things to remember for website design. Ranging from HTML, CSS, and XHTML codes to scripting languages like Java Script. Website design has a vast history considering it is a fairly young profession. Website design uses complex codes to create web pages in addition with programs aiding in the creation; when you join the two components together it is a long complicated process that ends in purchasing a domain name for a...show more content...
Websites did not need to be big, elaborate, and flashy. They just needed to get the point across, and that is exactly the purpose they served. In 1994 the World Wide Web Consortim or W3C was established to oversee the development of web technology standards. The W3C designated HTML as the primary code language for the future of website design to be based on. Of course they have made advancements in the base design code such as HTML versions one, two, three, four, and XHTML. The very first and current director of W3C is Tim Berners–Lee. Tim actually invented the World Wide Web in 1991 and created the world's first website. He put the first website online on August 6, 1991. The web address was http://info.cern.ch/. Unfortunately it no longer exists in its original form. The W3C is still in charge of code techniques and development guidelines that website development follows. Technology has advanced over the years in web design. Website design is cut up into four generations. The first generation of web design was very simple. It was basically just text, this was because early modems were very slow and plain basic webpages would load much faster this way. The second generation was slightly more advanced as the development of HTML became more complicated. The third generation of web design is when website designers could add vibrant colors and animated images to their webpage. The evolution of websites and their
Creating a Positive Learning Environment Essay
Research shows that the learning environment encompasses more than just the classroom that learning and teaching takes place. Many factors contribute to a learning environment, including the students, teachers, parents, school staff, policy makers, specialists, support staff, community members and the different learning spaces and resources available. This reflective journal will discuss some ways that teachers can set up the learning environment to maximise teaching and learning and some potential advantages and difficulties for me as a new teacher.
Education systems and services are integral to setting up a learning environment that maximises teaching and learning. I agree with Munro (2009) that being aware of what services,...show more content...
By creating collaborative relationships we can gain a greater depth of knowledge regarding student's needs and abilities and implement new teaching practices to maximise teaching and learning. When relationships are built on trust, students and parents can play an active role within the learning environment and teachers and staff can work together to develop a learning environment that caters for and celebrates diversity. Consequently everyone feels a sense of belonging and empowerment because with relationships comes an understanding of the others needs, interests and concerns. Cramer and Stivers (2007, p. 63), argue that "collaboration is no longer an ingredient in school life but an essential feature", however, not everyone may see it like that. Some staff and parents may not see the value in collaboration, there may not be an inclusive school culture and inclusive policy and practice may not be in place. However, I do believe aspects of these barriers can be overcome by sticking to my core values and beliefs and by becoming an advocate for the inclusive practices I believe in.
This week's material on the principles of Universal Design forced me to rethink the way curriculum and practices are undertaken and forced me to see teaching and learning in a new light. Pisha and Coyne (2001) discussed how in the past (and still today) the curriculum "locked out" many students with a variety of learning needs. Using principles of Universal Design for Learning teachers can
School Improvement Essay
School improvement is transformation. It is one of the most important actions of a school. It is a process that schools must use with fidelity to ensure that at all students are given the opportunity to perform and achieve at exemplary levels. School improvement is vital to schools and it is a process that cannot be done in isolation. It requires team work, collaboration, and constant analysis of data and setting of goals. School improvement goals focus on how to meet the needs of students. This is the most difficult step for schools, however, when working together, with urgency and a mindset to improve, total transformation will occur. As we review and synthesize data of a district for planning school improvement, the following information is needed to access and determine the needs of a school. First, a thorough analysis of performance data must be reviewed to see how school districts measure up with state and federal accountability. During this process, it is very important that schools focus the performance indicators that will guarantee growth and success. School teams must refer to the districts mission and vision to guide the planning process. The performance indicators will provide data that will be beneficial in creating improvement strategies. So, after careful evaluation of the data, the next step would be to plan effective methods and strategies that will improve student achievement. Moreover, this plan should include needs, demographics and opportunities for students to be successful. Additionally, the baseline data is important information to include in the improvement plan.
Data is always the best resource for trying to improve student achievement. The data will help guide continuous improvement of a plan. There are four types of data that will be beneficial to any team during the planning phase of the school improvement process.

I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them.
For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms
An Effective, Professional Teacher Essay
Introduction
The statement 'Teaching – reflections, questions, decisions' sums up what it means to be an effective teacher. Teachers are constantly making decisions about professionalism and ethics, teaching strategies, classroom management, and how to keep their students motivated. These decisions can have a major impact on student learning and how effective they are as teachers. Questioning is an essential–and one of the most important–instructional skills that a teacher can possess. Teachers need to be able to ask the appropriate types and levels of questions, such as the high and low order questions based on Bloom's taxonomy, as well as being skilled in responding to students answers. Teachers also need to be constantly evaluating and...show more content...
It is essential to encompass all of these behaviours and standards to succeed in being an effective teacher, as they are in an authoritative position and therefore need to lead by example.
Teacher professionalism is also dependant on professional judgement, which involves making decisions on what is the right thing to do in certain situations, and ethical behaviour. The code of ethics is based on respect, caring, integrity, diligence and open communication (Groundwater–Smith, Ewing & Le Cornu, 2007, p. 332). Sometimes teachers can come across 'ethical dilemmas' which are complex problems that have more than one solution, and in turn, each solution has different advantages and disadvantages, therefore having no clear correct answer (Groundwater–Smith et al., 2007, p. 336). For example, "You observe another teacher publicly humiliate a child who is known to have previously bullied other students. What do you do? Do you say anything?" Ethical dilemmas require teachers to explore all situations and outcomes, and make a decision on what is right and just.
Professionalism and ethics together, as relevant to teachers, demands all of these appropriate behaviours and responses in any circumstance (Whitton et al., 2010, p. 123).
Constructivism
Teaching techniques and strategies, such as proactive teaching, collaborative learning and constructivism, can also affect the quality of

3. Socialize with other friends and other couples.
If your mutual friends ask you to come out with them to a party, dinner, or a plain hang out, accept it! Don't think that your free nights are only dedicated to spending one on one time with your significant other.
Be sure to socialize and interact with other people, as well as other couples, as a pair. Why, you may ask? Because there's something different about being with your loved one in a crowd.
Regularly seeing your partner in the midst of other people will allow yourself to be reminded of what initially attracted you to them. Giving yourself the chance to see them interact with other people is a good way to renew your attraction to your partner.
4. Don't forget to take time for intimacy.
A lot of the relationships are stagnant because they lack intimacy. Because the initial rush you felt in the beginning of your relationship can quickly fade, it is very important to make time for intimacy.
It gives you the opportunity to feel a unique bond with your partner, and allows you to realize what a special connection you have with them, that others cannot have. Being intimate with each other releases oxytocin, a hormone that's responsible for the feeling of attachment.
5. Outwardly and directly express how you feel for them.
Your life can be dragging and stagnant, but it is very important that
Essay on Learning How to Learn
Learning How to Learn There are four characteristics to Kolb's learning style. They are divergers, convergers, accommodators and assimilators. Divergers are people whose strength lies in creative and imaginative ability. They excel in the ability to see concrete situations from many sides and to come up with a lot of ideas. Convergers are the opposite of divergers. Convergers use the practical application of ideas. They do best in a situation where there is one correct answer or solution and they can focus on same. Accommodators are good at carrying out plans and experiments. They also involve themselves in new experiences. They are risk takers and do well in situations that require quick decisions and adaptations. Assimilators...show more content...
Obviously, more than failures, or I would have already made a change. I bought bamboo one time that was supposed to be split in half. When I got it, it was split into about twenty pieces. At first I was disappointed, but then I picked up a piece bamboo and thought about it. I ended up applying it to the bar anyway. What started as an experiment, built on a hunch, turned out to be a new style of bar that people really love. The vast majority of the time things work out great, but there is always the possibility of failure. One thing is for sure though, I always learn from my mistakes. My motto is that, there are no such thing as mistakes, as long as you learn from them. As I stated earlier, I also rated tactile or kinesthetic in a few tests. My Core Values
As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge have never failed me. To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one day I could possibly

A few times a semester I would volunteer at the Prison Book Program, where I would read letters from incarcerated individuals from all over the country and find 2–3 books that match their interests and reading criteria. Opening each letter and hearing people's stories reminded me of the harsh realities of our world today, and the difficulty many people face in preserving their human dignity and self–worth.
Whether guilty of crimes or innocent, our incarceration system is an issue that many activists rally around in terms of its success and promise in correcting and rehabilitating criminal behavior. So, to read letters and hear the voices of those who are living on the marginalized edges of our society, but who rarely have a voice in the issue that's being nationally rallied around, is an uncommon circumstance that should be noted and have more attention and action drawn to. Their desire to educate themselves within the confines of a prison wall is real and heard by those of us who take time to spend their weekday evenings in the bottom of a church basement, sorting through donated books, and reading literary wish–lists of those who are incarcerated.
Another meaningful experience that sticks out to me is when I regularly volunteered at a children's homeless shelter in Roxbury, Mass. for two years, and was reminded of the fact that the statistics we hear every day about homelessness are real people – not just numbers. Every child I played alongside,
How To Improve Yourself Essay
Attempting to improve yourself is already an accomplishment in itself. In my opinion, the majority of my experiences have made me a contemptible person, and it is only due to my own hard work that I have grown at all. Three life–changing events that have made me the person I am today are the divorce of my parents, my mother's remarriage, and my mother and stepfather's multiple temporary disengagements. First, around my ninth birthday, my parents decided to separate. His two–faced personality taught me not to be so trusting, not to speak out, and to read situations better. I stopped trusting people immediately, for doing so was what brought my stepfather into my family's life. I ceased speaking out because if I stood up for myself or others, it would only draw an increased amount of my stepfather's attention, which never ends well. I became satisfactory at reading others and the situations they were in because I needed to make sure I avoided my stepfather when he was in a foul mood, and I could only tell he was in a foul mood by reading his body language since he never used his words. Lastly, my mother has left my stepfather multiple times but always comes back because he promises to change. Unwanting to leave my half–sister, she is unsure of how to solve her situation. There was one time over the summer that was longer than the others, where my mother revealed a great deal of things my stepfather did that I never knew about. She tried her best to be strong for me and my sisters, but couldn't help crying during that time. I realised that love and marriage were not exactly how the media made it out to be. I always knew that it wasn't perfect, but seeing my mother feeling she needed to leave her marriages so often made me decide that it's

Taking Care Of Your Body
I can not stress enough how important it is to take care of your body. Our parents teach us to take care of ourselves from the moment we're born. Everything you do affects your physical, mental/emotional, and social health. Taking care of your body is very beneficial. By staying physically active you are allowing yourself to be in shape. For example, going for a walk daily is one easy way to be physically active. It is important to keep up with your physical health because by doing so you decrease your risk of disease, look better, and it helps you avoid injuries. If you're not physically active it can cause anxiety and other problems. However it is also important to take care of your body to maintain healthy mentally/emotionally. You can keep up with your mental/emotional health by learning to express your feelings in appropriate ways, thinking before you act, and by striving for balance in your life. Follow these three easy steps and you'll be on your way in no time. If you lack these skills you could find yourself needing therapy and other types of medication. Finally the importance of taking care of your social health. You keep your social health, healthy, by staying positive, being nice to others, and by having respect. Not everyone is going to agree with you and not everyone is going to like you. All you can do is be yourself and surround yourself with people that inspire you to do better. These are three of many reasons why it is important to take good care of your

For a lot of them studying is very hard because sometimes most of the materials they study, they don't remember on the actual test or exam. However there are more than one way to study and most theses studying methods can be very helpful and very reliable. A Lot of students tend to cram all the studying two or the night before the test and according to UCLA professor of psychiatry Andrew J. A second method of studying is by studying in an appropriate setting (Chadron State College). Studying in an environment where distraction is very easy to find is very difficult. Studying in a quiet setting with a lot of space away from distraction can help you study and can help memory performance. With this setting it's also helpful to be consistent with the studying, studying at the same time and same place is very effective especially when this is done 2 –3 weeks prior to the test quiz or exam. With the proper setting, proper setting is also necessary. " Your study desk or table should be equipped with all the materials you might need to complete the assignment, e.g., pencils, pens, erasers, paper clips, stapler, dictionary, snacks, and liquid refreshments, etc." – Chadron State College. Adding items that can help you study and removing things that might distract is also need for effective studying.
